2019 Audi Q2: First impression

Audi needs no introduction, right? Its legacy and dominance in the luxury car market is well known. Carrying its legacy further is the all-new Q2. It was in the fourth quarter of 2018 when Audi first showcased the SUV. Also, back then it was open for pre-booking along with the new Audi Q5. And now, in the first week of March, Audi Malaysia launched not one but three cars - flagship Q8, Q5, and Q2. Though we are already up with the Audi Q8: First Impression story, it’s time now to check out the affordable of the three option, the Q2.

The 2019 Audi Q2 is finally up for grabs, and we can’t tell you how much we waited for this SUV. We don’t know why Audi kept us all waiting for so long to witness this stunning car in person. Anyway, better late than never. Since the new Q2 is now finally here let’s check it out. Here is our first impression of Audi Q2.

Looks

There is hardly any chance that one mistakes an Audi for any other vehicle. Its appealing design is enough to grasp your attention instantly. At the front, Audi has fitted the SUV with a sharp set of LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights. Further, the enormous grille with the new trapezoidal frame gives the car a masculine aura. Also, the front bumper casing in black and silver add to the appeal. Moving on to its side profile, one can easily notice the ice silver metallic casing beyond the C-pillar, it’s unique and gives the car a sporty feel. The prominent wheel arches house huge 19-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. Also, the side mirrors are integrated with a heating function and are electrically adjustable.

The rear features LED tail lights with dynamic turn signals, cutouts for which seem to be inspired from the grille design at the front. The rear bumper is dipped in the same shade as the extreme side end. Further, the rearview camera system, rear windscreen wiper, and roof spoiler with stop light are a few items listed in the utility section. Overall the Audi Q2 looks excellent.

Interior

Time to open the doors and see what treat lies inside. The cabin, as expected is done tastefully, and every corner of the car shouts class and premium-ness. It’s one of the most luxurious SUVs, without a doubt. The front passengers get sports seats with height adjustment, they provide great comfort and support. The cabin is spacious and airy. Included in the list are leather/leatherette upholstery, multi-functional steering wheel wrapped in leather, folding rear backrest, front centre armrest, inlays finished in red, and an interior light package.

As for tech, the car infotainment system gets MMI navigation plus, a 6-channel audio system with a 10-speaker Audi sound system, Audi Virtual Cockpit, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Engine 

 

At present, the Audi Q2 is available in only one variant and engine configuration. Called the Audi Q2 1.4 TFSI, as the name suggests, it is powered by a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder petrol unit that produces 150 hp of max power at 5000 to 6000 revs and a peak torque of 250 Nm at 1500 to 3500 revs. This mill is coupled to S Tronic 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission which takes care of the power transfer to the wheels. This engine is capable enough to take this SUV from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.5 seconds, and the top speed is 212 kmph. The 2019 Audi Q2 specs reveal its fuel consumption figures to be 18.86 kmpl and a combined CO2 emission of 122g/km.

Performance complimenting techs

Further, making the drive fun and comfortable both for the driver and passengers are features like - electro-mechanically operated parking brake, Audi drive select, progressive steering, comfort-oriented suspension, comfort access key, rain/light sensor wiper and lighting unit, and heat-insulating outside and rear window glass.

Safety features

The safety list for the all-new Audi Q2 is long and includes some impressive features. We get six airbags, an electronic vehicle immobiliser, electronic stability control, tire pressure monitoring system, power-operated child safety lock, Isofix child seat anchor points with top tethers for the outer rear seats, deactivation switch for the front passenger airbag hill hold assist, a frameless, self-dimming interior rearview mirror, and a tool kit with vehicle jack.

The 2019 Audi Q2 price starts at RM 219,000 (without insurance) for the 1.4 TFSI variant. Cars purchased from official channels will get 5-year unlimited mileage warranty.
