2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport gets a new petrol engine, priced at RM379,800

KUALA LUMPUR: Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia treats auto enthusiasts with a brand new petrol trim of the 2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport, powered by the company’s new Ingenium petrol engine. The new Discovery Sport also offers customers to select from a number of exterior and interior colour options, eight and three respectively.

The new 2.0-litre Ingenium engine is a turbocharged, four-cylinder, twin-scroll unit that churns out a max power of 240 PS at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 340 Nm at 1,250 rpm, mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The Discovery Sport gets paddle shifters in addition to a 4WD system. The car gets a Terrain Response system for swapping between different driving modes, linked to the car’s four-wheel drive system.

As far as performance is concerned, the Discovery Sport can travel from nought to 100 kmph in 7.6 seconds before attaining its top speed of 200 kmph. The 7-seater variant is, however, capable of touching the 100 kmph mark from a standstill position in 7.9 seconds. For the Malaysian audience, the 5-seater variant is available as standard though. On the economy front, expect it to return a fuel economy of 12.5 kmpl.

Inside, there are three trims to choose from, including Cirrus/Lunar, Almond/Ebony and Ebony/Ebony. Additionally, there is a large 5-inch full-color TFT instrument console, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, and the 8-inch touchscreen InControl Touch infotainment system with navigation and 380-watt Meridian surround sound system with 10 speakers. The 12-way electric front seats come with a memory function. For safety, there are 7 airbags and other driver aids like blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning to name a few.

On the outside, the model gets Xenon auto headlamps with LED daytime running lights, electronically-operated tailgate, auto wipers, and optional alloy wheels finished in gloss black of sizes, 19-inch ‘Style 521’ and 20-inch ‘Style 511’. Multiple color shades on offer include Firenze Red, Corris Grey, Yulong White, Scotia Grey, Indus Silver, Fuji White, Santorini Black, and Loire Blue.

The new petrol Discovery Sport Si4 model can be purchased by shelling out RM379,800 (registration, insurance and road tax not included). It is available with the Land Rover Care programme, which covers 3-year roadside assistance, 5-year/65,000 km servicing and 5-year/150,000 km warranty.
