2014-2016 Ford Focus & Fiesta get extended clutch warranty in the USA

MANILA: Ford troubles regarding its DPS6 dual-clutch gearbox have been inseparable from quite a long time now. So much so that the American automaker has, once again, announced to extend the warranty of the dual-clutch gearbox from five years to seven years. Hence, owners in North America will now benefit from an additional two-year and 40,000 miles (64,000 km) warranty on their Focus and Fiesta models.

Moreover, the extended warranty is for the aforementioned Ford cars that were built from 2014 to 2016. The Ford Focus models produced from 4 July 2013 to 5 November 2015 and the Fiesta models manufactured from 4 July 2013 to 15 October 2014 are covered under the extended warranty.

Courtesy of the "ongoing analysis of customer satisfaction and quality data", Ford will also refund money to the customers who have already spent on repairs of the dual-clutch gearbox. While 84% of the affected customers have already received a software update for the transmission, the remaining 16% or 165,000 customers will be provided with the free update very soon. Thanks to the new software, there will be a warning as soon as the transmission control module starts going out of order. Also, Ford will replace the module when and where needed at no cost.

Following the announcement, the affected Ford Fiesta and Focus models will now feature a seven-year or 100,000-mile (160,000 km) warranty for the clutch and a 10-year or 150,000-mile warranty for the transmission control module. Ever since the arrival of the DPS6  transmission, Ford has found itself surrounded by troubles and the sequence isn't coming to an end even in 2019. Even in the year 2014, the American automaker had announced to extend the warranties on the 2011-2013 made models by two years. In Malaysia also, Ford has earlier extended the warranty on cars with the problematic Powershift dual-clutch transmission by two years.
