Toyota Vios: Maintenance Guide

The Toyota Vios has emerged as a hot favourite amongst many Malaysians in recent years. The car is reliable and easy to maintain. This spacious, versatile, and reliable car is the first choice for students, families, and even professionals. Vios is not very expensive to maintain.

We all know servicing is a must for any car, as it ensures the long and healthy life of the vehicle. Similar to almost every other vehicle, Toyota Vios also requires regular maintenance to keep its performance up to the mark. While this vehicle might be cheap to maintain, it has a strict schedule to be followed.
These are a list of few things that can be done/checked at home and don’t require any professional assistance.

Engine Oil

Check the engine oil every month and change it as per requirement. Many car expert’s advice to change the engine oil after every 5000 km. Although it is said semi-synthetic oils do not require a change before 10000 km, it is still advised to change the oil post 5000 km, this ensures the long life of the vehicle as well as provides excellent protection for the engine.

Clean your car

Cleaning your car from the outside ensures that the dirt does not accumulate and ruin the paint in the long run. Washing your vehicle all by yourself also gives an idea about all the dents and scratches. Also, make sure the interior of your car is clean. If you don’t want to spend too much money on cleaning the car, make sure you don’t smoke inside as it is challenging to get the smell out. Your vehicle should be free of any foul odour and dirt. Using vacuum is an excellent method to clean your car. If the upholstery of your vehicle is made up of leather, cleaning would be effortless, but they do have the problem of discolouration.

Check the fluids

Your car cannot survive without a few essential fluids. Therefore, always keep a check on your steering fluid, windshield fluid, transmission fluid, etc. at least once a week. Also, ensure you carry extra water with especially when going on long trips. It has dual benefits. First, it'll cool your car if it gets overheated and second it'll ensure that there is enough water in the windshield wiper.

Inspect mirrors, lights, and windows

Car lights are essential especially if you are driving at night. Always change your broken lights with new ones immediately. This goes for all windows and mirrors as well. Keep an eye on damaged windows and cracks as it might disrupt your vision and can cause accidents on the road. Also, make sure the lights are positioned correctly.

Check the brakes, engine, and belts

Always make sure that a car's brakes are in proper condition as you and your passenger's life depend on it. Never try to save money when your brakes need maintenance, the unaligned brake pads or loose pedals can lead to a severe accident. You should also inspect batteries and belts for signs of rust or damage. The car battery also needs replacement from time to time. 

Your car comes with a service manual which has all the required information on its maintenance schedule. You should follow the maintenance schedule properly to maximize the life of your car. The things you need to do are same as with other cars, such as checking for oil, wires, timing belts, spark plugs and other parts of the car.  Following these tips would ensure longer life and efficient performance of your Vios.
