Mini Cooper: Top 3 interesting facts
Mini is a well-known brand in the world of automobiles. This name is related to cars for decades. Its products have a fan following of their own and are adored and appreciated by many big personalities. Mini has spread its empire over the entire world now. At present, it has five models for the Malaysian market. These models include Mini 3 Door, Mini 5 Door, Mini Clubman, Mini Countryman, and John Cooper Works. Over its so many years of existence, Mini has been part of a lot of interesting news. Today, we are going to tell you the top three interesting facts of about Mini that you probably did not know.
1) Guinness World Record Holder
As the name suggests, Mini designed cars that tend to be ‘mini’. This is one of the many reasons that Mini sold so many of them. However, a team of 28 women decided to set a new Guinness World Record of fitting as many people as possible in a Mini.
This team broke its earlier record of 27 people. The team members utilized all the space inside the Mini to set this new record. Some of them squeezed on to the dashboard, and footwells, while others managed to fit in the boot. The record was set on the eighth annual Guinness World Records day at Potters Field Park, London.
The team was also successful in breaking another record of fitting as many people as possible in a Classic Mini. The previous record of 21 people was broken by this team as it managed to fit in 23 of its members. However, this record was later broken by Danielle Maynard by cramming 28 people inside a Classic Mini on 18 May 2014.
2) BMW owns Mini
This is not a recent news and most of the people are aware of it, but still, there are plenty others who have no idea about the fact that BMW owns Mini. It was in 1994 when the BMW acquired the Rover Group along with its subsidiary Mini. BMW directly owned the company since 2000. Now, Mini is an independent division of BMW with its own range of models.
Many changes had been made through this transition. BMW discontinued the Classic Mini, but it created more stylish, and attractive products that soon became popular. Since BMW re-launched the Mini brand in 2001, the company has sold over 3,000,000 cars from its available fleet of models.
3) Star of ‘The Italian Job’
Back in the days, the original British Mini gained so much popularity that it was chosen as the main car in the 1969 movie ‘The Italian Job’ starring Michael Caine and Noel Coward. Later in 2003, a remake of the movie was in process, and the director decided without a doubt that the cars involved in the heist have to be Mini only. So, they used 3 Mini Coopers - one Cooper S Hatch R53 in chili red, and two Cooper Hatch R53 - an electric blue and another in pepper white.
Mini has a special place in this humongous automobile industry. It is loved by its customers and adored by many others. Its cars have evolved over the decades, and today, they provide some of the highly advanced features. The most affordable Mini in Malaysia is the Mini 3 Door which starts at a price of RM 188,888, whereas the most expensive and performance-oriented model of the Mini is the John Cooper Works that starts from RM 293,888.
