Wmoto RT3

WMoto has left no stone unturned in making the RT3 an attention grabber. This maxi-scooter looks very European in its design, which makes it look much more expensive than it is. There’s a lot of bodywork in the WMoto RT3, which gives it a striking road presence and visual bulk.

The huge and rakish front apron of the WMoto RT3 makes the scooter look beefy and edgy at the same time. At the centre of this front fairing, the WMoto RT3 gets an angular all-LED headlamp, which has daytime running LEDs on its outer parts. The outer edges of the front fairing come integrated with sleek-looking strips of LED turn indicators, which are neatly integrated into the side panels of the front apron of the scooter.

The WMoto RT3 has a prominently wide chin, which blends with the side panels of the scooter that flow towards the floorboard of the scooter downwards. Above the headlamp, the RT3 gets a small gloss black panel, on which the tall and transparent windscreen, as well as rear view mirrors, are mounted.

Move towards the side, and the WMoto RT3 further impresses with its sheer size, length and width. The scooter gets silver-finished garnish spread below the length of the split floorboard. The high-placed sweptback handlebar, split floorboard with integrated inclined footrests and lower-set and well-cushioned seat make up for a very comfortable riding posture, which is good for long-distance touring as well. The long and inclined seat of the WMoto RT3 has a hump in the middle, which creates a small separation for the rider and pillion.

The long and sleek-looking side body panels of the WMoto RT3 flow towards the rear in an angular fashion and get a long pillion grab rail. Just below the grab rail at the back, the RT3 is bestowed with a wide all-LED tail lamp cluster. The scooter rides on 15-inch front and 14-inch rear black alloy wheels, which go well with the rest of the design.

Like most of the maxi-scooters, the WMoto RT3 gets an expansive cockpit, which looks decent with an analogue speedometer and a blue-backlit LCD attached to it. This LCD shows digital readouts for a host of information while on the go, including a fuel gauge and real-time fuel efficiency and range data. The RT3 also gets a spacious under-seat storage compartment.

The low seating posture and the comfort-oriented setup for the suspension combination of telescopic forks at the front and dual-sided hydraulic coil springs at the rear make the WMoto RT3 a perfect companion for both low-speed urban riding and long-distance cruising. Assisting in the agility despite the bulk of the scooter are the 12/70-15 front tyre and 140/60-14 rear tyre. To bring this mammoth of a scooter to a halt, WMoto has equipped it with petal disc brakes at both ends.

The four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 247cc engine of the WMoto RT3 perfectly matches the show of the scooter with its performance. With its maximum power output of 23 bhp and a peak torque output of 22.5 Nm, it is one of the most powerful 250cc scooters one can buy in Malaysia. However, we feel that the engine can do with better refinement levels, especially at higher RPMs.

The WMoto RT3 is decently equipped with safety essentials like keyless ignition and a dual-channel ABS.

The refreshing visual appeal, road presence, performance from the engine and a comfortable setup for the suspension are some of the fine ingredients in making a maxi-scooter worth a thorough look. The WMoto RT3, in that effect, passes this test with flying colours.
