Vespa Primavera 150

The Vespa Primavera is a modern iteration of the iconic Vespa 150 from the era of the ‘50s and ‘60s, which makes it an even more special thing. The iconic design of the Vespa Primavera retains the original silhouette but comes with a range of modern elements, which make it a properly modern vehicle.

From the front, the Vespa Primavera looks quite slim and elegant. The minimalist and compact handlebar have a well-contoured design with a rounded headlamp in the centre. This headlamp is a full-LED unit with daytime running LED and has a chrome garnish around its circumference.

The apron, which forms the major part of the front profile, flows down in a curvaceous manner and comes with a traditional chrome boundary, which flows throughout its boundary towards the bottom of the floorboard, till the rear side body panels. It also gets clear lens turn indicators on its lower edges and a tie-shape central shield with three horizontal decorative stripes. Both these elements have been the trademark of Vespa from day one.

Other trademark design elements which have been shared with the original Vespa 150 in the new Vespa Primavera are the split floorboard with a hump in the middle and rounded rear side body panels. The hump in the middle divides the floorboard into two halves, both of which gets rubber footrests. The side body panels of the Vespa Primavera are well-contoured and get the chrome-finished badges on the lower ends.

Other things which make the Vespa Primavera look elegant are the large and beautiful looking multi-spoke alloy wheels with brushed aluminium finish, well-padded seat, and tubular pillion grab rail made of chrome. Even the tail lamps at the back of the body and the exhaust pipe have chrome garnish over them.

The rider’s cockpit of the Vespa Primavera looks classy with a neat-looking instrument console with an analogue speedometer and an LCD panel for fuel gauge, odometer, and trip meters. The rounded rearview mirrors and handlebar levers are finished in chrome as well.

Apart from the looks, even the mechanical composition of the Vespa Primavera is inspired by the original Vespa 150. The scooter comes with a suspension combination of a single-sided trailing link at the front and a single hydraulic shock absorber at the rear. Compared to the more modern suspension setup in other scooters, the unit offered in Vespa Primavera feels a bit dated, which reflects its slightly stiff ride quality.

The scooter comes with an 11-inch wheel at the front and a 10-inch wheel at the rear, with 110/70-11 front tyre and 120/70-10 rear tyre. For braking, the Vespa Primavera comes equipped with a 200mm disc brake at the front and a 110mm drum brake at the rear, which do a decent job of bringing the scooter to rest.

The Vespa Primavera sources its thrust from a four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 150cc engine. Mated to a CVT gearbox, this engine churns out a maximum power output of 11.6 bhp and a peak torque output of 11.5 Nm. To start with, the engine feels refined and has an impressive linear power delivery, which is good for riding at slower city speeds. The engine, however, is slightly low on power for a 150cc unit.

The Vespa Primavera is an entry-level scooter, so it misses out on premium safety features that are present in the more premium GTS Super.

The Vespa Primavera is more of a fashion icon, rather than a scooter meant for commuting. It does every job which a conventional scooter can do, but with an added dash of style, which makes it highly desirable, despite its basic underpinnings.
