Recent Updates of Africa Twin
There have been speculations that Honda could be working on a 2021 Africa Twin 250 to debut in the coming year. As for Malaysia, the current-gen Honda Africa Twin comes with a lot of updates that include LED headlights with DRLs that adjust to ambient lighting. At its heart, the Africa Twin is powered by a 1084cc parallel-twin engine that makes 100 hp at 7500 rpm and 105 Nm of torque at 6250 rpm. As for the transmission, there are two choices – manual six-speed gearbox or Honda’s six-speed DCT automatic transmission. Modern features in this adventure bike include full-colour 6.5-inch TFT-LCD touchscreen, cruise control and four riding modes.

After a lot of spy shots released of the new Honda Africa -Twin, the company finally revealed the bike globally. Also, the Japanese multinational bike manufacture has announced that it is the European fans who will get this beauty first.
The current-gen Honda Africa Twin comes with a new 1,084cc Euro5-compliant parallel-twin engine. Clearly, the difference is spot-on as the previous one had a 998cc engine. The bike is a perfect off-road beauty that has a LED headlights with daytime running lights. The 6.5-inch TFT-LCD touchscreen makes it stand out from the crowd.
This Africa Twin is available in only colour variant as Grand Prix Red.
Honda Africa Twin Design
Honda Africa Twin is a perfectly designed bike for adventure touring. This 998cc is a top-range adventure bike that is perfect for long-distance and off-road riding. The bike is set up on a Semi-Double Cradle.
The flat firm seat with a natural upright sitting position is comfortable. The new LED headlights feature which comes along with Daytime Running Lights (DRL), provides consistent daytime visibility, while also incorporating cornering lights which you lean without bothering about blind spots. The Front Tyre size is 90/90 R21 & 150/70 R18 Rear Tyre which gives it a good road presence and grip. The twin claims to have 226kg body weight with fuel carried in an 18.8-litre tank.
The bike comes with a height of 1435mm, length - 2310 mm, and a width of 930 mm.
Africa Twin Ride & Handling
The Africa Twin uses a 45 mm diameter Showa front fork, fully adjustable with 230 mm of travel, suspension. While the rear end has a fully adjustable mono-shock with 220 mm of travel. The revised, lighter frame, with bolt-on aluminium subframe and lighter, makes it a more rigid CRF450R-style swingarm for improved rear-wheel traction and feel.
The riding position features a slimmer section seat and higher set handlebars making it a perfectly Tailored bike for complete control. The DCT gearbox is connected to the inertial measurement unit (IMU), which operates in conjunction with the Twin’s traction control, cornering ABS, wheelie control, and rear-wheel lift modules. It gives the Twin four ride modes – Tour, Urban, Gravel, and Offroad – with two more user-customizable modes.
Moreover, the Honda Africa Twin comes with a decent sit height of 870 mm, which is quite good so that the short height people can easily handle it.
Honda Africa Twin Engine & Fuel Consumption
One of the best parts of the Honda Africa Twin is its impressive engine. The liquid-cooled, Parallel Twin with 270 Crank and Uni-Cam engine is capable of churning out a maximum power of 100 hp, which comes at 7500 rpm. While the peak torque is 105 Nm coming at 6000 rpm.
The power is channelled to the wheels via a manual gearbox. It is featured with a variable Exhaust Control Valve (ECV) for improved low-rpm sound and high-rpm performance. There is an Aluminum Cam Wet Multiplate with Coil Springs Assist/Slipper clutch.
Africa Twin Braking & Safety
The Africa Twin comes with dual disc brakes on the front and single discs on the rear which chomp down with urgency when necessary. Some of the safety features included are Pass Switch, Engine Check Warning. However, the bike lacks some basic safety features. The inclusion of the Anti-Lock Braking System, shutter lock, front, and back wheel locks could have been a useful addition.
Honda Africa Twin Verdict
The Honda Africa Twin is a nice off-roading bike, which is packed with a lot of amazing features. It has a powerful engine, which is good enough to take care of its acceleration needs. The design is also good, the presence of side wings makes it unique. There are four riding modes, so you can adjust the modes at your convenience. Moreover, to take care of your safety the bike comes with disc brakes on both wheels. However, the average safety features and expensive maintenance are some of the flaws.
