Aprilia SR Max 300 Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
With SR Max 300, Aprilia intends to make its mark in the quarter-litre maxi-scooter category, thus offering a perfect upgrade for an entry-level performance scooter owner to a bigger and more powerful scooter. With extensive bodywork and a powerful engine, the Aprilia SR Max 300 promises to offer a thrilling riding experience. The Aprilia SR Max 300 is available in Malaysia in only one colour option, white.
Aprilia SR Max 300 Design
While the design of the Aprilia SR Max 300 is not an all-new thing, as it has existed in the market for quite a long time now, it is the sharpness and visual bulk in the design of the Aprilia SR Max 300 which makes it an eye-catching scooter to look at.
At the front, the Aprilia SR Max 300 has a busy-looking bodywork, which features a sloping front apron having dual headlamps setup on its lower portion. This headlamp setup is laid out in a U-shaped design and features daytime running LEDs over both lamps. The upper part of the front profile of the Aprilia SR Max 300 gets a big transparent windscreen, which is very effective in stopping windblasts at higher speeds.
The bulky-looking front fairing of the Aprilia SR Max 300 extends towards the floorboard with slim-looking body panels, while incorporating offset-looking thick strips of LED turn indicators within them. The Aprilia SR Max 300 features a split floorboard, with the centre tunnel housing the fuel tank of the scooter. The tunnel flows towards the scooter’s rear side body panels, which look sleek and continue the edgy but muscular bodywork of the Aprilia SR Max 300. The large and roomy layered single seat of the Aprilia SR Max 300 goes well with the overall size of the scooter.
While the Aprilia SR Max 300 looks humongous at the front for its size, the rear profile is a stark contrast to the front profile, with it having a minimal appearance with a sleek-looking tailpiece with a small LED tail lamp. This sharp and angular-looking tailpiece of the Aprilia SR Max 300 adds to the sporty appeal of the scooter.
The only design trait of the Aprilia SR Max 300, which has begun to show its age, is the dated-looking instrument console. The three-part instrument console, which gets a centrally-placed rounded analogue speedometer, a rounded analogue tachometer to its left and an LCD panel for a trip computer to its right, is finished in a theme of silver garnish around the meters. The overall layout looks old-school, and might not appeal to modern buyers.
SR Max 300 Ride & Handling
Despite the visual bulk of the Aprilia SR Max 300, it feels agile to ride thanks to its sport-tuned suspension combination of telescopic forks at the front and a single-sided coil spring at the rear. The Aprilia SR Max 300 feels nimble for a scooter of this size, though you might feel the stiffness of this suspension setup at some points. The scooter comes equipped with a 15-inch wheel with 120/70 R15 tyre at the front and a 14-inch wheel with 140/60 R14 tyre at the rear. For braking, the scooter is armed with disc brakes at both ends.
Aprilia SR Max 300 Engine & Fuel Consumption
Doing justice to the overall sporty design of the Aprilia SR Max 300 is its powerful engine. The four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 278cc engine of SR Max 300 produces 22 bhp of maximum power and 23 Nm of maximum torque output, which is similar to the performance numbers of other 250-300cc scooters available in the market right now.
SR Max 300 Braking & Safety
The Aprilia SR Max 300 is an old-school quarter-litre motorcycle which misses out on modern-day riding aids. Though it comes with a few noteworthy safety features like a lockable ignition keyhole and a secured under-seat storage compartment.
Aprilia SR Max 300 Verdict
The Aprilia SR Max 300 has an impressive road presence, despite being one of the oldest designs in the 250-300cc category. The scooter feels impressive to ride, thanks to its powerful engine and a sport-tuned stiff suspension setup.
