Volvo S60

The cabin layout of the Volvo S60 Recharge takes a lot of inspiration from the other premium Volvo offerings like S90 and XC90, with the design having an elegant and timeless appeal. The all-black cabin of the S60 Recharge is wrapped in Nappa leather upholstery, which is further complemented by door panels charcoal headlining and metal mesh aluminium décor on the dashboard.

The driver’s cockpit of the high-quality cabin of the Volvo S60 Recharge has a traditional three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, which has premium-looking chrome and gloss black inserts over the spokes. Behind this steering wheel is a 12-inch full-TFT instrument console, which is further accompanied by a head-up display at the top of its binnacle. The dashboard corners have square-shaped AC vents with rounded edges and chrome and gloss black surrounds. At the same time, the AC vents in the centre console have a slim and vertical design and are placed beside the 9-inch portrait-styled touchscreen infotainment system, which takes centre stage in the middle while slightly tilted towards the driver's side. 

Below the infotainment system, the dashboard of the Volvo S60 Recharge has a small and sleek panel of audio controls. The central transmission tunnel emerges from the lower centre console while housing the crystal-themed gear shift by Orrefors, an electronic parking brake switch and a concealed storage box. There are plenty of feel-good features in the cabin of the S60 Recharge, such as a panoramic sunroof, air purifier, front and rear centre armrests with storage bins, powered front seats with memory function, ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with subwoofer and more. 

The current iteration of the Volvo S60 Recharge has existed for more than half a decade now, which might create an impression of being a lesser fresh-looking vehicle for a car of its price. However, the design of the Volvo S60 Recharge still looks charming and sophisticated, with a hint of understated elegance all around that has aged well with time. 

The front profile of the Volvo S60 Recharge has a sleek-looking all-black rectangular grille which has tapered lower edges and chequered inserts, along with Volvo’s traditional logo with a slanted strip running in the middle. The grille is accompanied by sleek, horizontally-laid, all-LED headlamps that also feature the now trademark Thor’s hammer-inspired daytime running LEDs. The simple-looking front bumper of the S60 Recharge has pentagonal air inlets on the corners and a trapezoidal air dam in the middle.

The sophistication in the design of the Volvo S60 Recharge is evident in its side profile too, with it having clean-looking curves above the front and rear fenders. At the same time, the door-mounted rearview mirrors and the 6-spoke 18-inch machined alloy wheels elevate the sense of sophistication further. The S60 Recharge has a smooth-looking roofline that flows nicely towards the boot lid, which has a neat look with a couple of creases flowing across its width. Like the larger S90 sedan, the S60 Recharge also has C-shaped LED tail lamps on the sides of the boot lid, making the sedan look further wider from the back.

The Volvo S60 Recharge boasts of a comfort-oriented tune for the suspension combination comprising a double wishbone with coil springs and a stabilizer bar at the front and a multi-link setup with coil springs and a stabiliser bar at the rear. There are three drive modes in the S60 Recharge for a more refined and engaging driving experience – Performance, Comfort and Dynamic, which tune the suspension setup for a preferred driving experience depending on the preferred comfort levels. 

Shared with other plug-in hybrid offerings from Volvo, a combination of a 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol engine, a front-mounted electric motor and a 19kWh battery is offered under the hood of the Volvo S60 Recharge. This powertrain of the S60 Recharge claims a maximum power output of 462 bhp and a peak torque output of 709 Nm while allowing the luxury sedan to reach a top speed of 180 kmph and 0-100 kmph sprint time of 4.5 seconds. With a claimed EV-only range of 90 km, the 19kWh battery takes 3 hours for a full charge.

The long list of safety features that make the Volvo S60 Recharge one of the safest luxury sedans in its price range are front, rear and side park assist, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping aid, pilot assist, rear collision warning, blind sport information system with cross-traffic alert, oncoming lane mitigation, tyre pressure monitoring system, dual-stage airbags, 360-degree parking camera and more.
