Mercedes Benz E-Class Coupe

One does get multiple trim and upholstery options to choose from for the cabin of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe, which is opulent to the core with impeccable premium appeal. The layout is more or less the same as that of the E-Class sedan but differs on the basis of materials used.

The three-spoke multi-functional flat-bottom steering wheel has meaty silver accents for the spokes and is leather-wrapped. Behind this steering wheel, there are two 12.3-inch TFT screens placed adjacent to each other, for the fully digital instrument console as well as a touchscreen infotainment system. The turbine-style silver-finished AC vents – one each on the dashboard’s corners and three on the centre console – add a futuristic appeal to the cabin.

The lower layer of the dashboard has a wraparound design which enhances the width of the car even more. Going well with the premium theme of the car, the cabin is loaded with innumerable bells and whistles and has adequate space for four, with limited room for the rear occupants due to the two-door layout of the car.

As is quite evident from the name, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe shares much of its design ethos with the E-Class sedan. However, there are many subtle alterations carried out to the design, which makes it a visually different and much more striking car to look at.

At the front, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe looks much similar to its sedan counterpart, with the elongated and curvy bonnet ending up in a slightly rounded grille, which comes with chrome embellishments giving it a diamond-studded feel to it. The curved headlamps look sophisticated with the full LED treatment given to them, which also gets the trademark dual-curved slat theme for the daytime running LEDs.

The side profile of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe looks very dramatic with its traditional rounded coupe roofline and the two-door look with non-existent B-pillars. The rounded wheel arches with large machined alloy wheels and door-mounted rearview mirrors aid in enhancing the sporty appeal of the design.

At the rear too, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe has a substantial difference from the E-Class sedan, with a cleaner design for the boot lid accentuated by a longitudinally stretched sleek-looking LED tail lamps. The exhaust ports on either side of the rear bumper’s lower portion get chrome garnish around them.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe might not have the spacious feel of the rear cabin of the regular sedan version of the E-Class. But the comfort levels of the coupe do match that of the sedan, with a softer setup for the Agility Control suspension, which consists of multi-link setup at both the ends.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe shares both of its petrol automatic powertrains from the E-Class sedan. The engine in question is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which is available in two states of tune - 197 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque in the E200 version, and 258 PS of power and 370 Nm of torque in the E300 version. Both engines are paired to a common 9-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe has a poised and graceful stance which looks more gracious over its sedan counterpart, while retaining the positive attributes of the sedan, including the technically advanced powertrain and drivetrain.
