Introduction:

Mercedes Benz CLS Class is a luxury sedan produced by the elite German auto manufacturing brand Mercedes Benz. The car was originally launched in 2004 and is currently in its second generation. After tasting a sweet success all over Europe the car entered into the Malaysian market and ever since its debut, the car received an overwhelming response at the sales registers throughout the country. Much credit for this goes to the German engineers who have given the car a dynamic exterior body, graceful interiors and exceptional power which make the car a superb combination of elegance coupled with superior performance.

Engine, mileage & variants:

Mercedes Benz CLS class comes powered with 2 powerful petrol engines of capacity 3.5-liter and 5.5-liter. The 3.5 liter petrol engine in the CLS 350 BlueEFFICIENCY variant can deliver a maximum power of 225 kW at 6500 rpm along with a peak torque of 370 Nm between 3500 to 5250 rpm. Move up to the 5.5 liter petrol engine in the CLS 63 AMG variant and you will get a maximum power of 386 kW between 5250 to 5750 rpm and a peak torque of as high as 700 Nm between 1700 rpm to 5000 rpm. The homogeneous direct injection system works in harmony with AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed sports transmission (in top end model) to deliver an exceptional power as well as an appreciable fuel economy. The mileage across both the engines vary from 10 kmpl in the 63 AMG to 14.7 kmpl in 350 BlueEFFICIENCY.

Exteriors:

Mercedes Benz CLS Class has kept the basic folklore of the German company intact by providing dynamic and elite aesthetics to the car. The low sporty front, the sharply defined edges, the new link between the stylish headlights and the long sloping bonnet looks captivating. The aerodynamic side profile in harmony with the sporty rear gives the car a touch of sophistication. The futuristic front along with the plunging roof line till the rear mirror is a piece of art. The car comes equipped with alloy wheels measuring 255/40 R18 and 255/35 R19 for front tyres whereas 285/35 R18 and 285/30 R19 for rear tyres in the CLS 350 and CLS 63 AMG respectively. The dimensions of the car are a good 4940 mm x 1881 mm x 1416 mm (L x W x H) and the wheelbase of the car measures a long 2874 mm which makes provisions for ample legroom and headroom inside.

Interiors:

The German automakers have very suavely designed the interior and the cabin has been finished with elegant ergonomics that you'll expect from a luxury sedan. The exclusive silver chrome surfaces, the wooden trim elements and the ergonomically finished dashboard adds to the elegance inside. The front seats have been incorporated with 4 way lumbar support adjustment that ensures maximum comfort on long rides. Besides that, the car has been embedded with several multimedia and audio features, the most notable of them being the advanced 610W Harman Kardon Logic 7 Surround System which works in the combination with Dolby Digital 5.1 system to give an enhanced acoustic experience. The boot space provided is impressive and measures 520 litres which can further be enhanced with the 60:40 rear seat split ratio arrangement.

Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous:

The German automakers have ensured that the riders have a very safe drive. The suspension system of the car comprises of multi link alignment with twin tube gas filled coil springs. The braking system of the car consists of internally ventilated disc brakes incorporated with Brake Assist and Anti Lock Braking System which is more than enough to offer you a superior handling and an effortless drive. Dedicated airbags, driver's kneebag, front sidebags, pelvisbags, windowbags and rear side airbags have been provided that work in 2 stages depending on the intensity of impact and hence keeps you safe in case of an unwanted accident. The other salient safety features include Attention Assist, Night view assist plus system, Electronic Stability Programme and the multilingual Rescue Guidelines. The brakes are ventilated discs on all the wheels with composite discs on the 63 AMG variant.

Verdict:

If you are looking for a powerful 4 seater coupe equipped with the latest infotainment features and advanced safety devices, CLS will be the right choice. The high price however might make you feel disgruntled.
