BMW XM

The overall interior of the BMW XM is a fine work of art, which screams attention-to-detailing and premium appeal of a higher order. The Standard variant has four dual-tone BMW Individual ‘Merino’ leather upholsteries on offer – Sakhir Orange, Black, Silverstone, and Deep Lagoon. Meanwhile, the Label Red variant comes with only one dual-tone Fiona Red with Black BMW Individual ‘Merino’ leather upholstery.

Adding a “wow” experience to the cabin of the BMW XM is an indirectly illuminated headliner with a three-dimensional prism structure, available in various colour selections. The M Lounge experience, along with exclusive vintage leather with a natural structure and elegant accents in door panels and instrument console, add to the wholesome experience. There are tons of features and equipment on offer in the BMW XM, with the most highlighted one being the curved driver’s cockpit housing a 12.3-inch instrument console and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system running on BMW Operating System 8.

BMW has gone the outrageous way while designing the XM, and this bold approach is very evident in the way it looks. However, while this attempt at designing, the overall look of the BMW XM has become polarizing. While the futuristic and aggressive look of the BMW XM can appeal to some, it is also a bit too extreme for a section of people.

At the front, the BMW XM welcomes one with a huge double-kidney grille with tapered edges, which also features the iconic glow theme around them. On the sides of this grille, the XM comes with a split design for the headlamps, including slim daytime running LEDs at the top and separate housings for the all-LED headlights below them. There are a host of air curtains and dams on the front bumper, which make the front profile of the XM look aerodynamic.

The side profile of the BMW XM looks majestic. While it has a heightened stance with a well-sculpted bonnet, high running window waistline, high ground clearance, and huge 23-inch alloy wheels, there is a touch of coupe in its slightly sloping roofline. What catches one’s attention is the Night Gold accent band around the window frame on the side, which flows in a wraparound fashion. The Night Gold accents are also present on the alloy wheels, which make the SUV look attention-grabbing.

The rear profile of the BMW XM also has a lot of visual drama, with the SUV having an edgy and clean appeal at the same time. At the bottom, the SUV comes with hexagonal exhaust ports with Night Gold accents, while the design for the boot lid looks rather clean and compact regarding the rest of the design. The sleek and edgy tail lamps with LED inserts add more visual drama to the rear look of the XM.

In the Label Red variant of the BMW XM, all the Night Gold accents on the exterior are replaced by sporty-looking red accents.

BMW has gone with all guns ablaze in making the XM a fine driver’s delight. The sports SUV comes with adaptive M suspension Professional with integral active steering and M Sport differential, both of which make the XM a great SUV in terms of handling and stability at higher speeds.

The BMW XM is available solely with a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine in a full-hybrid setup. This engine claims 653 PS of power and 800 Nm of torque in the Standard variant and 748 PS of power and 1000 Nm of torque in the Label Red variant. The transmission unit on offer is an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic gearbox.

BMW has left no stone unturned in equipping the XM with top-spec safety features, the list of which here includes a head-up display with augmented reality navigation, a driving assistant professional with a full suite of ADAS features, BMW trailer assistant and BMW digital key.

The BMW XM is not just an SUV, but a fine piece of art and engineering at its best. This flagship SUV from BMW is extravagant and full-blown in every sense, be it styling or engineering prowess.
