Yamaha Tracer 900 GT: Top reasons to buy

Yamaha Tracer 900 GT: Top reasons to buy

In an attempt to make riding more fun, touring more comfortable, and overall user experience more thrilling, Yamaha came up with its Tracer 900 GT - an all-rounder motorcycle that will put a big grin on your face. It is loaded with some interesting features that make it a better buy over the competitors in this segment. It sits proudly in Yamaha’s big bike catalogue. Here are some of the top reasons to buy the Tracer 900 GT.

Comfortable riding position

Yamaha has somehow managed to provide a slightly better riding position in the Tracer 900 GT when compared to the standard model. You sit quite upright and the high-rise single-piece handlebar is just at the right distance. The footpegs are in a neutral position. So, the rider’s triangle is pretty much very relaxed and stress-free. Riding the Tracer 900 GT for long hours wouldn’t be a problem.

Adjustable windshield

Having a useful and adjustable windshield on motorcycles like the Tracer 900 GT is always an added benefit. You don’t realise the importance of a windshield unless you experience the enormous wind blast of cruising at high speeds. It is extremely tiring. The Tracer 900 GT comes with a newly designed and manually adjustable windshield. Yes, it’s not an electrically adjustable unit but at least it can be adjusted.

Heated grips

This is another feature in the Yamaha Tracer 900 GT specs that you will appreciate once you actually use it. It makes riding through the cold breezy mornings or long runs in the evenings so much more comfortable. If your hands are cold or freezing, you might face problems in operating the hand-operated functions - throttle, brake, clutch, etc.

New TFT display

Replacing the non-colour display of the standard model, the Tracer 900 GT gets an all-colour new TFT display. This system is loaded with information like speedometer, tachometer, gear position indicator, fuel level, engine temperature, riding mode, traction control setting, and whatnot. Also, it is much clearer and legible enhancing the overall user experience. There are other tell-tale lights like ABS, side turn indicators, neutral, etc.

Inline 3-cylinder engine

Powering the Yamaha Tracer 900 GT is an award-winning inline 3-cylinder engine. It is the one that powers up the aggressive Yamaha MT-09. It is an advanced engine with components like offset cylinders, fracture-split connecting rods and staggered intake funnels with a cross-plane concept crankshaft to deliver an exciting, sporty engine character with plenty of torque for flexibility and relaxed highway comfort. This 847 cc engine produces 115 PS of max power at 10,000 rpm and 87.5 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. It is refined and smooth and sounds pretty good too. It is mated to a 6-speed constant-mesh type gearbox.

Quick-shift system

The Tracer 900 GT looks like a great touring motorcycle but that doesn’t mean it can’t be used to have some fun at the weekends or early morning breakfast rides. It’s for such rides Yamaha has installed is QSS (quick shift system). It allows making seamless upshifts without using the clutch providing an enriching riding experience. It can also be used while cruising long distances.

Adjustable suspension setup

This is another great feature of the Tracer 900 GT that we like. Yamaha has provided an adjustable suspension setup. At the front, there are fully adjustable USD forks that feature separate leg damping for simplified tuning and while the rear shock utilises a remote preload adjuster to simplify changes in load.

We think these many reasons should be more than enough to give you an idea about the Tracer 900 GT. It is a well-thought and well put together motorcycle. Yamaha has done a commendable job with this one. We are sure that once you have a test ride of this thing, you’d find it difficult to not buy it. It’s that tempting. Plus, it is a Yamaha, Japanese, so you wouldn’t have to worry about the quality and materials; everything here is top-notch. In Malaysia, the Yamaha Tracer 900 GT price is RM 58,888 and it is available in two colour options - blue + black and red + grey.
