Yamaha NVX - Reasons to buy

Out of numerous underbone automatic scooters available in the country, Yamaha NVX is among those who are different and stand out from the usual. It is for people who like to multi-task because it is comfortable and sporty at the same time. In fact, it has become so popular since its launch in 2017, that Yamaha had to come up with a sportier NVX Doxou variant which was introduced in September 2019 for RM 10,688.

Today, Yamaha NVX price is RM 9,906 and the following are some of the reasons why one should buy it.

Yamaha NVX side

Dynamic and sporty looks

Of course, this had to be one of the main reasons why one should buy the NVX. Yamaha has done a commendable job in designing it. At the front, the dual LED headlights look brilliant and also offer great illumination. We like how the front fairing integrates into the headlights. Talking about the fairing, all of them look very attractive. The side ones get integrated turn signals. We also have the sporty exhaust unit which has been blacked-out for better visual appeal.

Yamaha has also paid attention to the rear of the NVX. The rear grab rail has been properly diffused with the scooter’s bodywork. It not only looks cool but also serves the purpose. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the NVX has looks of a small sportbike, don’t you think?

Powerful and refined engine

To give NVX the performance it deserves, Yamaha has slapped on a 155 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with fuel injection which produces 14.7 bhp and 13.8 Nm of torque. These are some healthy figures which enable the NVX to be easily ridden in the city. The engine has Yamaha’s Blue Core technology along with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) which enhances its performance, refinement, and fuel efficiency.

Yamaha NVX specs sheet also lists a stop and start system. Upon activation, this system puts the engine on the standby mode when idling to preserve fuel. The smart motor generator with an electronic controller ensures a gentle and smooth starting of the engine with minimal throttle. It could be very beneficial when riding in stop-and-go city traffic.

Following are the detailed engine specifications-

Engine type Liquid Cooled, 4-Stroke, SOHC, VVA
Bore x Stroke    58mm x 58.7mm
Compression Ratio    10.5 : 1
Maximum Horsepower    14.7 bhp at 8000 rpm
Maximum Torque    13.8 Nm at 6250 rpm
Displacement 155 cc
Fuel System    Fuel Injection

Convenient features

Yamaha has also thought of a handful of convenient features that make a world of a difference in daily usage. To begin with, the NVX comes with mini storage space for storing small size personal items. It also has an electric socket to charge your smartphone. Yamaha also added its smart-key system which is a key-less system equipped with an immobilizer for safety efficiency and retrieval system to easily identify your scooter.

Yamaha NVX under seat space

Some of the other convenient features are-

  • Large under-seat storage space - 25-litres of capacity that can accommodate even a full-size full-face helmet along with a few of your personal belongings.
  • Fuel tank with cap lid - filling fuel is much easier thanks to the well-engineered fuel tank that is located outside so you wouldn’t need to lift up the seat every time you refuel.
  • 5.8-inch LCD panel - it is fully digital, easy to read, well-lit and large enough. It shows all the necessary information in a sorted manner. And, of course, looks very cool.

Good handling and braking

Yamaha NVX rides on wide 110/80-14M/C 53P front and 40/70-14M/C 62P rear tubeless tyres which provide good grip and thus helps in the scooter’s handling. Also, the large front forks and the sporty rear suspension work simultaneously to help you nail that corner. And if anything goes south, there is ABS to improve the braking performance and keep you up on your wheels.
