Yamaha NVX: Hits and misses
Having launched two years back in the country, the Yamaha NVX has garnered enough love and admiration from the society. Waiting an additional nine months to finally get hands on this advanced scooter while it was already sold in other parts of the world, we believe the wait was worthwhile for the people of Malaysia.
The Yamaha NVX is a premium offering that promises to offer a sportier experience every single time. Available in three colors, Race Blu, Fiery Red and Active Yellow, the Yamaha NVX price tag reads RM 9,988. With advanced features, economical engine, and eye-catchy looks, it is one of the scooters that a buyer considers before putting a hand on one.
Let’s not brag about things rather discuss both sides of it so that you get a better picture of what the scooter is all about.
Yamaha NVX Hits
1.Looks
The Yamaha NVX is one of the most aggressively-styled scooters in the entire line-up of Yamaha scooters. It is big and sharp featuring pronounced character lines that are capable of grabbing eyeballs in the first go. Its beefy tyres and centre spine characterise its sporty avatar. By looking at the NVX, you’d get a feeling of gazing at a premium Yamaha sports bike and not a scooter. Designers at the company have done a commendable job. The seat is fat, comfortable, and wide enough for easy commuting.
2. Peppy engine
Powered by a 155 cc, single-cylinder engine that produces a max power of 15PS at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 14.4 Nm at 6,000 rpm, coupled with a CVT gearbox that transmits the power to the rear wheel. The liquid-cooled engine comes with an electronic fuel injection system and variable valve actuation (VVA). Although it is the same engine as seen on the NMAX, it is peppier on the NVX than on the former. It has amazing throttle response along with power delivery that excites a rider within.
3. Economical
It is made on the lines of Blue Core technology that ensures impressive fuel efficiency of 45.45kmpl. It is also rated as an Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV). What makes the NVX economical is the Start and Stop feature, which can be toggled on/off. It automatically starts and shuts the internal combustion engine to minimize the time required to bring the engine into an idle state. This helps in reducing emissions as well as fuel consumption.
4. Stability and control
While riding on the highways, you don’t feel disoriented even for a second. Thanks to its big and beefy tyres and improved suspension system that provide you stability and confidence to push through the corners and maneuver through city traffic with conviction. ABS is an added advantage to all of that.
5. Storage
The under seat compartment is another hit you can’t afford to miss. It comes with a capacity of 25 litres that’s more than enough for you to hold important stuff like laptop bag, wallet, charger and more. Under the left handlebar, there is another storage space which features a 12-volt socket to plug in your adapter for charging your phone.
Yamaha NVX Misses
1.Rear Disc
One of the crucial things that the Yamaha NVX specs sheet misses out on is the rear disc brake. It features a drum brake at the rear end. With everything sorted and supported for a smooth riding experience, Yamaha should have considered incorporating it with a disc at the back end.
2. Seat height
The NVX sports a seat height of 791 mm, which perhaps is on the taller side as far as 150 cc scooter segment is concerned. Short-height riders may find it a tad challenging to accommodate and adjust.
