Yamaha NVX: Features explained

Yamaha Malaysia has got a total of five automatic models available on sale in the country. And the NVX sits right in the middle of the lineup being somewhat a good package by providing a handful of interesting features. Available in three color options - blue, red, and yellow - the Yamaha NVX price of RM 9,906 makes it even more approachable. Here are some of its key features that should give you an idea of whether it is the right one for you or not.

Looks

We will start with the looks because that is the first thing that you would notice about the NVX. Yamaha knows how to make an automatic scooter more desirable and sportier. Its design expertise is certainly visible in the NVX. Unlike conventional scooters, the Yamaha NVX features a dual headlamp setup which has a very sharp design. To match that sharpness we have aggressive front and side fairing. The side-mounted exhaust also enhances the sporty look. On top of all that, we have very attractive and engaging dual-tone colour options.

LCD dash

Yamaha NVX isn’t just modern and advanced in its appearance but it actually is. Yamaha has provided it with a large 5.8-in LCD dash which is something that you would not easily find in such a vehicle. It is a fully digital panel which gets bright enough that it is legible even in broad daylight. It is loaded with information like speedometer, trip meter, clock, fuel gauge, etc. Below the screen, we have a few tell-tale lights as well.

LED headlight and tail light

We already spoke about how good the dual headlight setup on this scooter is in terms of design. What we didn’t tell you is that these lights aren’t halogens. Yamaha fitted them with LEDs, that is another USP. They are brighter, consume less power, and even look better. And it is not just the headlights where you will find the use of LEDs, even the tail light is an LED unit. Plus it is a clear lens piece which enhances the look of the scooter without compromising on safety.

Integrated grab rail

Talking about the rear of the Yamaha NVX, it looks like the scooter doesn’t have a grab rail for the pillion to hold on to. But in reality, there is one hidden in plain sight. Yamaha has cleverly integrated the grab rail into the body resulting in a better seamless design without compromising on practicality.

Charging socket with storage space

 

We are so dependent on our smartphones these days. These devices have become like a necessity. That’s why the Yamaha NVX offers a charging socket along with small storage space so that you can charge up your device on the go.

Large under-seat storage

There is another storage area in the NVX that we have to mention. It is a large under-seat compartment which offers a massive 25-litres of storage capacity. It can accommodate a full-face helmet and a few of your personal belongings without a fuss.

Smart fuel tank design

Another example of clever and smart engineering in the Yamaha NVX is its smart fuel tank design. It comes with a cap lid which not only acts as a safety feature but also helps in the aesthetics as well. And the fact that it is located at the front, refuelling is so much easier.

Advanced engine

Yamaha NVX specs sheet tells it is powered by a 155 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which has been tuned to produce 14.7 bhp of max power at 8000 rpm and 13.8 Nm of peak torque at 6250 rpm. It comes with fuel injection for precise fuelling to enhance performance and fuel efficiency. It is also topped up with Yamaha’s Blue Core technology that further enhances both the performance and efficiency. Yamaha has also added VVA (variable valve actuation) which makes sure there is a sufficient amount of power available at all times throughout the rev band.

Sturdy suspension

The front suspension setup on the NVX is telescopic only but the forks here are of 26 mm in diameter capable of handling a lot more beating and enhancing stability. At the rear, we have swingarm-type dual shock absorbers for sporty riding experience.

Braking performance

Yamaha NVX specs don’t fall short in the braking department as well. The scooter comes with a disc brake at the front and a drum at the rear. Its braking performance is enhanced by the wider and grippier tubeless tyres (110/80-14M/C 53P front and 140/70-14M/C 62P rear). The NVX also comes equipped with ABS.

Stop and start system

Another feature of the NVX that improves its fuel efficiency is the stop and start system. When activated, this puts the engine on standby mode when idling. And as soon as you get back on the throttle, the smart motor generator with electronic controller ensures gentle and smooth starting of the engine.
