New Royal Enfield factory is up and running in Thailand
KUALA LUMPUR: Royal Enfield first announced its plan to open a new factory in Thailand in November 2020. This new plant would not just serve the Thai market but other Southeast Asian countries as well. It is also reported that overall motorcycle sales went slightly down in Thailand in 2020, however, the mid-size and large segment (where Royal Enfield models are positioned) experienced a two percent raise.

The plant is developed in cooperation with the Thai motorbike company GPX.
The new Royal Enfield facility is located at Chachoengsao (a province located north of the popular Pattaya beaches and east of Bangkok). GPX even has its headquarters located in the city of Chachoengsao.
The bikes will be shipped to the new factory in completely knocked-down (CKD) form, for assembly in Thailand and distribution across the Southeast Asia market.
As for the bikes rolling out of the new Royal Enfield factory, both the 650 Twins (Interceptor and Continental) and Himalayans will commence proceedings this month.
B. Govindarajan, Royal Enfield executive director said, “Royal Enfield has been working extensively to grow and expand the middleweight motorcycling segment globally." He added, “With a strategic view to grow the business and cater to increasing demand, we have been pursuing our plans to set up local assembly units in priority markets beginning with Argentina in 2020 and then Colombia earlier this year.”
Govindarajan concluded by saying, "Continuing this journey and marking a first for us in the Asia-Pacific region, we are very happy to announce the commencement of operations at the CKD assembly plant in Thailand. A testament to our commitment to the region and the market potential, and to our growing community of riding enthusiasts, this facility will enable us to efficiently cater to the growing demand in this region, and also become the hub for the rest of Southeast Asian markets.”
