KUALA LUMPUR: Yamaha recently introduced a new, lightweight commuter scooter in its home market, which goes with the name X-Force. Based on the same underpinning as the NMax 155 that is sold in Malaysia, the scooter is loaded with a number of modern bits that you often find on large-capacity scooters. Set to go on sale on June 28, the new Yamaha X-Force is priced at JPY 3,96,000 (approximately equal to RM 12,923). Compared to the NMax 155, it is almost RM 4500 dearer.
X-Force design and features
Dubbed as 'Master of Street Scooter,' the new X-Force sports a very sharp front fascia kitted with a split LED headlight and a smoked visor. The vertical turn indicators merge smoothly with the edges of the apron. On the back, we can see a compact design featuring an LED tail light bar accentuating the whole rear look. The scooter rolls on 13-inch alloys wrapped in a 120/70 front and a 130/70 rear tyre.
The X-Force also gets a flat footboard for enough leg-room and storage. The underseat area measures 23.2 litres, which can easily accommodate two helmets.
Among the most significant features are a traction control system and an LCD panel paired with a Bluetooth system for smartphones. This enables the rider to monitor calls and SMS messages and check the smartphone's battery level and other relevant details.
X-Force engine specifications
At the core of this new Japanese scooter lies the tried and tested 155-cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine incorporating the Variable Valve Actuation tech. Paired with a CVT transmission, the motor delivers a maximum power output of 15 hp at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 14 Nm at 6,500 rpm.
X-Force suspension & braking
Coming to the hardware kit, the suspension duties are taken care of by telescopic forks at the front and dual shocks at the rear. As for braking, it is equipped with a 267mm front disc and a 230 mm rear unit mated to dual-channel ABS.
