Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP recalled for overheated exhaust

KUALA LUMPUR: Yes, that’s true. Honda’s flagship motorcycle, the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP is being recalled in the US.

Why?

Well, that’s because the motorcycle’s exhaust pipe could overheat which in turn could cause the melting and rupturing of the oil cooler pipe.

Also, in the worst-case scenario, the overrated exhaust unit might even increase the chances of a crash, injury, and even fire.

Sounds risky, right?

Problem?

As per the NHTSA recall document, the exhaust gets overheated when the pipe doesn’t receive sufficient airflow. The problem will occur especially when the bike is being driven in first gear and above 5,000 rpm for long or when it is following another vehicle.

Solution?

As a precaution and to avoid any type of mishappening Honda America has issued a recall notice to 211 CBR1000RR-R SP owners in the country.

Honda will then replace the oil cooler pipe and install a heat guard between the exhaust pipe and the oil cooler pipe. All free of charge.

It is to be noted that Honda America has urged the affected owners to ride their bikes to the nearest showroom under 5,000 rpm in 1st gear.

Also beginning 2022, Honda will pre-install every CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP with a heat guard.
