Ducati DesertX gets a new touring variant, the DesertX Discovery

KUALA LUMPUR: Ducati has rolled out an all-new iteration of the DesertX in the international market, called the Ducati DesertX Discovery. Positioned between the standard and the Rally versions in the bike’s lineup, the latest DesertX trim is a touring model, designed to offer enhanced comfort and features for long-distance adventures.

In terms of styling, the DesertX Discovery features a new red livery with black and white decals, giving the bike a striking and distinctive appearance. 

As for enhanced touring capabilities and overall durability, the Ducati DesertX Discovery comes packed with the following additional features and accessories -

• Reinforced handguards: They provide added protection for the rider's hands and controls, especially during off-road adventures.
• Engine guard: It protects the engine from impacts and potential damage.
• Aluminium sump guard: It shields the engine's oil sump from rocks and other hard objects.
• Heated grips: It provides warmth to the rider's hands at the time of riding in colder climates.
• Taller visor: It diverts the wind away from the rider’s face and upper body and helps in reducing fatigue during long rides.

• Centre stand: This practical addition helps the bike in stable condition when parking on uneven ground. Also, it makes maintenance tasks like chain lubrication and tyre checks more convenient.
• Radiator protector: It guards the radiator against damage from mud and other debris on rough terrains.
• Aluminium adventure side cases: With a total capacity of 76 litres, these spacious side cases provide ample storage for gear and essentials. 

At the core of the all-new 2024 DesertX Discovery lies the same 937-cc, L-twin engine found on the other variants. The said engine kicks out a maximum power of 108 bhp at 9,250 rpm and a peak torque of 92 Nm. Power goes to the wheels via a six-speed gearbox. 

The electronic kit also stays the same with features like wheelie control, cruise control, a bi-directional quick-shifter, engine brake control, riding modes, and power modes.

The suspension setup comprises 46 mm fully adjustable upside-down forks at the front and a KYB monoshock at the rear. Handling the braking duties are radial-mount four-piston Brembo callipers, dual 320 mm discs at the front and 2-piston Brembo calliper, 265 mm disc at the rear. These are complemented by Bosch cornering ABS.

The Ducati DesertX Discovery is priced at GBP 17,295 (approximately equal to RM 103,566) in the United Kingdom. As for reference, the standard DesertX retails for RM 112,900 in Malaysia.
