What’s concerning is the fact that BMW came to know about the problem only after it was raised by a GS owner back in 2020 wherein the bike suffered from a broken gearbox input shaft that subsequently blocked the rear wheel. Followed by two more incidents and a major one coming in 2022 wherein the affected model got into an accident, causing injury.
All this led BMW to thoroughly inspect the issue which in turn led to the discovery of the problem, which is, an abrupt difference between the engine speed and rotational speed of the final drive component. Thus leading to the overload of the gearbox input shaft and eventual breakage.
