Meet the most unreal concept bike - BMW S 1000 RR Phantom

KUALA LUMPUR: Over the years, we have seen lots of customized motorcycles as well as amazing concept bikes showcasing the sheer artistic talent of the builders and designers. And now here comes something most unreal from the London-based product designer Mehmet Doruk Erdem. The artist modified the BMW S 1000 RR into a land-speed racer concept, dubbed as Phantom. Although, it is extremely hard to recognize BMW in it as it has been styled in an extremely futuristic way.

The creation looks inspired by the sinister appeal of the model in a cyberpunk depiction, which undergone a massive transformation to become a straight-line machine for smashing speed records. It features intricate bodywork that makes it look more like a moving sculpture instead of one meant for the street. The bike does not really sport a dashboard and rear-view mirrors.

The designer teamed up the Phantom’s extremely low-slung design with an equally aggressive seating posture. On the sides, it has a pair of miniguns that give it a gyroscope-enhanced self-balancing and a processing chip for avoiding the high-speed collision. At the rear, the artist fixed the angled slats on the boxy-looking fender which cover the chunky rear wheel and make things more interesting.

About the powertrain, no information is there at this point, however, the given ‘M’ badge hints at the extremely tricked-out version of the BMW S 1000 RR’s existing 999-cc inline-four-cylinder mill that kicks out a maximum power of  207 PS and a peak torque of 113 Nm. The Phantom may also have some nitrous-powered goodness to go a long way.

On the suspension front, the superbike gets a hub-steering in place of a fully-adjustable inverted front fork. Visually, the front wheel of the Phantom does not seem capable of turning much. It is supposed to be designed for moving over an extremely flat and obstacle-free surface.

Prior to this, the Turkish designer Erdem brought a shark-inspired modified BMW K75 retro land-speed racer, in association with a US-based custom bike builder, Mark Atkinson. Other than bikes, Erdem’s designing portfolio includes cars, monster vehicles, architecture, and jewellery.
