Meet Aprilia’s new maxi-style scooter, the SXR 50

KUALA LUMPUR: The Italian bike maker Aprilia is known to the world for its racing bikes as well as small scooters. The latter broke the conventions of the time and became much popular with the urban masses. Taking things forward, the company introduced a new 50-cc maxi-style scooter in the European market keeping first-time riders in mind, called the SXR 50. It bears the same styling seen on the India-spec SXR 160.

Powering the brand’s most petite scooter yet is a small Euro5 compliant 50-cc single-cylinder engine placed under the bulky cladding borrowed from the SXR 160 only. The engine delivers a maximum power of 3.26 PS and a peak torque of 3.3 Nm. The bike has a single-cradle structure frame made of tubular steel and molded sheet metal elements that provide rigidity as well as sport handling to the scooter.

On the suspension front, the Aprilia SXR 50 has a telescopic fork set up at the front and a 5-step adjustable mono-shock at the rear. Braking duties are taken care of by a 220 mm front disc and a 140 mm rear drum. The small scooter runs on 12-inch alloy wheels shod with 120/70 section tyres.

In terms of design, it gets a three-piece LED headlight integrated with daytime running lights. It is placed just below the front windshield just like the SXR 160. Not only this, but the LCD instrument console of the new model is also the same available with the elder sibling. The panel features all the important information to the rider, including speed, ambient temperature, fuel level bar, average fuel consumption, odometer, and so on. 

Aprilia also offers the MIA connectivity system as an accessory, that has Bluetooth-enabled smartphone connectivity. The range of accessories also includes a taller front screen, non-slip rubber mat, side stand, leg cover, and 32-litre colour-coded top box.

Added to the scooter’s practicality are features like illuminated under-seat storage of 20 litres, a small rear luggage rack, an apron-mounted glove box with a USB charging port, and a retractable hook. The SXR 50 seat height measures 775 mm.

The all-new Aprilia SXR 50 is on offer in two classic colours - Essence White and Indistinctive Grey. The price starts at 2,279 Euros (RM 11,337).
