All-new 2021 Suzuki GSX-S1000 launched, enjoys heavy revisions
KUALA LUMPUR: As promised, Suzuki launched the 2021 GSX-S1000, making the naked motorcycle segment more appealing than ever. In its new form, Suzuki’s latest offering benefits from design changes and powertrain revisions. Not to forget it gets several electronic riding aids as well that only enhances the deal for the customers.
In its new version, the GSX-S1000 looks stunning and is blessed with many revisions both inside and outside. Starting with the latter, the bike features a new set of LED headlights that are compact than the older halogen units but gives out excellent lighting. The low-beam and high-beam are stacked, with the former positioned above the latter. Additional illuminating elements are located above the SRAD intakes, one on each side of the headlight. Also, part of the kit is LED taillights, brake light, and license plate light (the light is smaller and lighter than a conventional bulb, but produces more illumination). The LED turn indicators come as standard fitment and so is the full LCD instrument cluster which is brighter and easier to read. It incorporates S-DMS mode, Motion Track TCS level indicators, fuel gauge, and readouts for average fuel consumption, ambient temperature, and service reminder.
Helping kick things a notch up in the styling department is the bike’s aggressive body panels and MotoGP-like aero fairings.
What powers the 2021 Suzuki GSX-S1000?
The new GSX-S1000 sources its power from a 999cc, 4-stroke, 4-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC mill which is Euro5 compliant. The engine makes a maximum power of 105 hp at 11,000 rpm, which is 2 hp more than the previous-gen output. The enhanced power is the result of several revisions that come in the form of a new intake, new exhaust camshafts, a revised set of clutch and throttle bodies, and lastly a restyled airbox with less intake resistance. The power is sent to the ground via a 6-speed constant mesh transmission. As for the torque, Suzuki says there’s an overall improvement along with more linear power delivery.
Other improvements
The major highlight however is the electronic updates provided by Suzuki. The naked sports bike now comes with the company’s latest Suzuki Intelligent Ride System, a suite of driving assistance systems. This ride-by-wire throttle management system includes - three engine maps, five traction control settings, launch control, low RPM assist, bi-directional quickshifter, Suzuki Easy Start System, and Suzuki Clutch Assist System.
Furthermore, the motorcycle’s chassis has been designed, ensuring a better riding position with a wider handlebar which is now closer to the rider. Also, part of the kit is a new seat and improved KYB suspension kit.
Availability and price
Suzuki is offering the 2021 GSX-S1000 in three colour options - Glass Sparkle Black, Metallic Triton Blue, and Class Matte Mechanical Grey. As planned, it will initially go on sale in the UK market with a starting price of £ 10,999 (approx. RM 62,700). We hope it makes it to Malaysia soon.
