2022 Suzuki Burgman 400: All a rider needs to know
It was only a few days back that Suzuki Malaysia treated its market with not one but two new offerings - the 2022 Burgman 400 and the 2022 GSX-S1000. And today we’ll be discussing the former in-depth, so let’s get started.
What it really is?
The all-new BURGMAN 400 is a maxi-scooter that as per Suzuki brings greater class and pleasure to the journey. The company compares it to a fine suitcase, as it rides comfortably, performs like a champ, and maneuvers brilliantly. All in all, it is a winning combination of style, practicality and convenience.
Design language
As can be seen, the Burgman 400 is a lean, toned, and ready to perform maxi-scooter that even on most twisted, narrow streets. Its front and rear ends are sharp, slim and sexy, and remaining true to its family name it will turn many heads.
Adding to its look is the new stunning matte finish “Metallic Matte Sword Silver” creating a cool and modern appeal. The tone as one can see has a high-quality, metallic appearance of a sword that further accentuates the scooter’s elegance.
Lightweight
Burgman 400 features a slim and lightweight body that not only makes it instantly recognizable but super easy to handle even in congested traffic and narrow streets.
Features
Efficient LED headlight: The nose of this new maxi-scooter from Suzuki features a sharp dual LED headlight with integrated LED position lights with the turn indicators mounted just below the main setup.
LED rear combination light: The sharp and slim rear end features independent LED rear combination lights with indicators at their tips.
Windscreen: Burgman 400’s upswept windscreen design creates a clean and compact look and offers optimum wind protection and a clear view of the road.
Wheels: Suzuki has fitted its latest maxi-scooter with large 15-inch wheels at the front that present a bold image. At the rear is present 13-inch tubeless tyres
Seat: Both the passenger and rider can enjoy luxurious comfort with Burgman’s stepped dual seat that combines a 78.5 mm thick cushion with a slim design
Adjustable backrest: The backrest can be adjusted forward by 15 mm - 30 mm offering optimum support and comfort to the riders of various builds
Underseat storage: The Burgman 400 even with its slim and compact rear design offers ample storage room under the seat, 42-litre to be exact. Good enough to store two helmets (one full face, one demi-jet)
Front compartments: At the front are present two compartments - one on the left side with 2.8-litre capacity and on the right with 3.5-litre capacity
12V DC outlet: One of the front compartments houses a 12V DC outlet for charging smartphones or other electronic devices
Cut-away footboards: Unlike the normal units, the cut-away footboard does not flare out behind the rider’s foot. Thus, helping the rider place their feet firmly on the ground while stopping
Chain lock gate: It allows the rider to pass a chain lock through the bodywork, around the frame, and then around a pole or any other immovable
Rear brake lock system: The easy-to-operate rear brake lock system control is located on the same side as the ignition key. When engaged, it applies a lock system on the rear brake when parked, proves very useful when the scooter is parked on an incline platform
Suzuki Advanced Immobilizer System (SAIS): No unauthorized person can start the engine thanks to SAIS, an electronic identification system in the key. The mechanism includes a magnetic cover that opens only for owner’s key thus protecting the ignition switch for added security
Braking & handling
Suzuki has fitted Burgman 400 wheels with an antilock brake system that monitors wheel speed and matches stopping power to available traction, providing great control and confidence. The new lightweight ABS control unit reduces the weight by 36 kg over the current model.
Assuring exceptional handling and maneuverability is Burgman 400’s suspension setup that includes 41 mm telescopic front forks with a generous 110 mm suspension stroke along with a unique link-type monoshock rear suspension with 7-way adjustable spring preload. The 100 mm of wheel travel maximizes the balance between sporty performance and comfort.
Smart riding
A well-informed rider is a happy and confident one and that sure is the case with anyone riding a Burgman 400. The maxi-scooter offers - a large analogue speedometer and tachometer dials, a digital display showing fuel gauge, dual trip meters, odometer, ambient temp, avg fuel consumption, and clock. The instrument cluster also shows riding range and instant fuel consumption.
The Burgman 400 also gets a traction control indicator, an eco drive indicator, and a freeze indicator. The latter blinks to let the rider know there may be ice on the road.
Powerful performance
The Burgman 400 is built to deliver a winning performance for which it gets the updated Euro 5 emissions standard meeting 400cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder, DOHC, fuel-injected engine that generates well balanced low-to-mid range torque with better throttle control. Also, the mill offers sophisticated rides that are higher in rev range.
It also gets a new catalytic converter with honeycomb construction, new traction control system that assures riders’ peace of mind and excellent road-holding ability, newly adopted Suzuki’s Dual Spark Technology that improves combustion efficiency, achieve more stable power output, and minimize fuel consumption.
