2021 Yamaha NVX: First impression

The Malaysian two-wheel market is seeing an influx of new machines ever since the beginning of 2021. The most recent being the launch of 2021 GPX Demon GR200R, 2021 Wmoto Xtreme 150i, 2021 SYM Jet X 150, 2021 Honda CBR600RR, 2021 Vespa Primavera Pic Nic 150, 2021 Benelli R18i to name a few. Some models even received an update, for instance, the 2022 Yamaha YZF-R15 got new colours. Speaking of Yamaha specifically, it launched the 2021 Y16ZR in March and there is another entry in its lineup which comes in the form of 2021 NVX.

We got to check out the bike and here’s our first impression about it, but before that some basics`.

The above-mentioned details reveal that its seat height is appropriate for the average Malaysian rider. Further, the 149 mm of ground clearance makes it an easy-breeze ride above rough terrains. The 5.5-litre fuel tank capacity is an improvement over the previous 4.6-litre, thus assuring a range of almost 200 km.

2021 Yamaha NVX Variants

In Malaysia, Yamaha is offering the all-new NVX in two variant options - NVX Standard and NVX ABS.

2021 Yamaha NVX Styling

The new NVX seems like a stunner with its edgy design and impressive features. At the front, it gets new LED headlights with Pilot light whose intensity and orientation has been optimised making it eye-catching and enabling it to deliver excellent night time visibility. Furthermore, the LED position light combines light guides with inner lenses creating a wider and spoiler
appearance.

At the rear, it gets an equally attractive pair of taillights that packs 12 compact, high-density LEDs that give out a 3D appearance.

2021 Yamaha NVX Colour Options

Yamaha Malaysia is offering the all-new NVX in several striking colour options. The entry-level Standard trim is available in Cyan and Red hue, while the premium ABS is offered in GP Blue and Platinum SE shades.

The 2021 NVX ABS trim benefits from aluminium resins that transition between matte and metallic finishes.

2021 Yamaha NVX Features

One of the major highlights of the new NVX is the Y-Connect. Limited to the ABS version, it monitors functions like fuel consumption, maintenance schedules, battery levels, malfunction notification, and last location. The rider can also check the last incoming and missed call, and even message notifications.

Also part of the kit is the stop & start system that automatically shuts off the engine when the bike is idling in traffic or is stopped, this enhances its mileage.

2021 Yamaha NVX Engine

Powering the all-new NVX is 155-cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, SOHC engine that benefits from Yamaha Blue Core design. It is equipped with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), fed by EFI. The said mill pumps out a maximum power of 15.4 PS at 8,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 13.9 Nm at 6,500 rpm. In comparison, the outgoing model’s engine makes 14.8 PS and 14.4 Nm of torque. The generated power is sent to the ground via a V-Belt automatic transmission.

This next-gen automatic power plant ensures maximum power every time along with enhanced fuel efficiency and superior riding with Blue Core technology.

2021 Yamaha NVX Ride & Handling

Ensuring a smooth ride all along with telescopic front and swingarm rear suspension setup.

Braking duties on the other hand are handled by single hydraulic with ABS/single hydraulic disc (standard trim) at the front 14-inch wheel and spindle type mechanical drum rear brake on the 14-inch wheel.

2021 Yamaha NVX Price

The recommended retail price for NVX stands at RM 8,990 for the Standard version and RM 10,998 for the ABS trim. It is to be noted that these figures do not include registration, road tax, and insurance.
