2021 BMW S 1000 RR and R 18 Classic launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: As a treat to motorcycle enthusiasts and prospective buyers, BMW Motorrad recently rolled out two updated models in the Malaysian market - 2021 BMW S 1000 RR and BMW R 18 Classic.

Available in two variants, the new S 1000 RR standard version is priced at RM 121,500, while with the M package one can grab the superbike by paying RM 138,500. As for the all-new BMW R18 Classic, Malaysian customers need to shell out an amount of RM 154,500. All prices are on-the-road, excluding insurance. So, what’s all-new in the updated bikes?

The updated model gets LED lighting everywhere and features a full-color TFT-LCD display showing all the necessary information. The colour options for the standard model are Blackstorm Metallic and Hockenheim Silver, while for the M package, there is only a Light White/Racing Blue Metallic/Racing Red combo on offer.

At its heart lies a 999-cc liquid-cooled inline-four engine producing a maximum power of 207 hp at 13,500 rpm and a peak torque of 113 Nm at 11,000 rpm. The engine features four titanium valves per cylinder and ShiftCam variable valve timing. Added to the standard features list is Riding Mode Pro with dynamic traction control and ABS Pro, which complement certain existing bits, including four riding modes, hill start control, and HP Shift Assistant Pro.

Customers selecting the M Package will also get a dynamic damping control system, M Sport seat, M Package battery and carbon-fiber wheels. Optional kit includes M Carbon footpegs, M brakes, M Datalogger and Laptrigger, and more.

2021 BMW R 18 Classic

The touring-friendly R18 Classic is the brand’s latest addition to its Heritage offerings. It is a nostalgic touring bike that echoes the origin of the great touring cruiser models from the House of Munich. The majority of the elements remain unchanged from the standard R18 like LED lighting systems, a tear-drop-shaped fuel tank, and the hardtail-esque rear section. The added ones are LED fog lights, a large windshield, a removable passenger seat, saddlebags, and a 16-inch front wheel, altogether contributing to the distinguishing appearance of the touring version.

Powering the R18 Classic is a 1,802-cc air-cooled boxer twin engine churning out a maximum power of 91 PS at 4750 rpm and a peak torque of 158 Nm from 2,000 to 4,000 rpm. The gearbox uses a six-speed transmission and a final driveshaft to send power to the rear wheel. The top speed of the bike is rated at 180 kmph.

Other features include reverse gear, selectable riding modes (Rock, Roll, and Rain), steering stabiliser, ABS, electronic cruise control, automatic stability control, and so on. Black Storm Metallic colour is the only colour choice on offer.

The two superbikes are now available at all authorised BMW Motorrad showrooms across the country.
