Yamaha NVX: Top 3 things we like
The AT scooter market in Malaysia is on a flourish as leading manufacturers continue to provide more and more options in this particular segment. Popular two-wheeler manufacturer Yamaha has a fair share of the market with better-selling scooters like the NMAX and the NVX. Sold as the Aerox elsewhere, the NVX 155 was a bit late to arrive in Malaysia but has received a warm response ever since it was launched. There are a lot of differentiating factors which make the NVX stand tall against its rivals. Here are the top three reasons which will convince you that it is one of the better options to buy in this segment.
1. Impressive looks
Right from the first glance, the NVX looks like an attractive commute. It features a very aggressive and edgy design language starting from the front fairing till the rear seat cowl. The front apron holds a sharp LED headlight that gives a very angry stare, just like some of Yamaha’s bigger bikes. One of the most interesting design element of the NVX is its grab rail which is neatly integrated into the body making it almost invisible. Being an underbone, the NVX has a spine and that too a very high one which is housed a fuel tank. Complimenting the overall sharp design, the seat also comes with edges and has a slightly higher pillion seat. Yamaha has equipped the NVX with a 5.8-inch fully-digital instrument console with a blue background displaying the digits in white. Available in three colours- red, blue, and black, the NVX is an absolute treat to the eyes.
2. High-performance engine
It’s not just the looks. Yamaha has matched the styling quotient of the NVX 155 on the mechanical front as well. It draws power from a 155cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valves, SOHC engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). The engine comes with Yamaha’s Blue Core technology producing a max power of 14.8 hp at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 14.4 Nm at 6,000 rpm. It is also Yamaha’s first model to get an Energy Efficiency Vehicle (EEV) classification. Yamaha has also introduced the stop-start technology in the NVX which turns off the engine once it is idle for more than five seconds, thereby reducing fuel consumption.
If we compare the output figures with the Honda PCX, the NVX is 2.3 hp more powerful and produces 1.4 Nm of additional torque. The NVX is one of the most potent automatic scooters in Malaysia and is also very economical with a claimed fuel-efficiency of 45 kmpl.
3. Loaded with features
There are plenty of exciting features on the NVX. Yamaha has equipped it with twin unit swing suspension at the rear for better riding stability and comfort. It comes with a keyless start which is really convenient especially in this segment and at this price point and has a 25 litre under seat storage capacity which can store regular size helmet and other belongings. Adding to the list of convenience is a remote seat and fuel-lid opening switch. There’s a small glove compartment which has a 12V charging socket to charge your electronics. ABS is offered as standard to enhance the braking on the NVX 155. Not to forget the aforementioned fully-digital LCD instrument console which digitally reads out all the vital information a rider needs.
Currently, the Yamaha NVX is offered at RM9,906 (excluding insurance and road-tax) under government’s zero-rate GST scenario. Yamaha is offering a lot more than expected to justify this price, thus making it a great option to buy. If you want to own a power-packed automatic vehicle which flaunts a modern design and comes equipped with a lot of features, you can go with the Yamaha NVX 155 without really digging a hole in your pocket. In Malaysia, it primarily competes against the Honda PCX which retails at RM10,999.
