ECLIMO electric motorcycle test ride
First some basic information. An electric scooter or motorcycle is powered by battery power instead of petrol. It does not have a petrol-fed engine. Instead, it is powered solely by a rechargeable battery and an electric motor.
Here is a 100 percent Malaysian-developed electric scooter. Not a joint-venture, not some ‘over-inflated’ government grant project, and not a rebadged project. This is ECLIMO and it is a locally developed scooter from Penang-born Malaysian.
The model we tested is the ES-11 ‘Delivery’ model and has an electric motor rated at 6 kW max and 5 kW continuous power which is good enough for 110 Nm of torque and a 100 kmph top speed.
The lithium-ion battery pack used by this 150 kg ES-11 is rated at 3.08 kWh which will give riders about 1,000 recharge cycles using 240 volt from your home power socket.
A full battery charge will allow the ES-11 rider to travel an average of 90 to 110 km. Rolling on 13-inch wheels, the ES-11 uses hydraulic disc brakes front and rear.
Here are 6 reasons why you should consider this ECLIMO electric scooter.
- The ECLIMO electric bike might initially cost more than a fuel-powered one, but in the long run, you will make savings. A full charge to your motorcycle costs much less in energy bills than it would do in petrol fill-ups.
- The ECLIMO delivers instant torque and power. Electric motorcycles have good power delivery. With 100 percent instant torque, you get a nice smooth acceleration. The delivery of this torque is linear, which also means you won’t get the surge feeling you get with petrol-powered motorcycles.
- The ECLIMO has less maintenance for the owner. An electric motorcycle has one moving part. It does not have engine oil, spark plugs, air filter, and timing belt. So unlike with your petrol-powered motorcycle which has lots of moving parts, you will not have to spend your time getting messy by cleaning and oiling things like the chain. The only maintenance you will need to carry out is on the tyres, brake pads and hydraulic fluid, which will all last longer as the electric motor does most of the braking.
- ECLIMO delivers a quiet ride. Electric motorcycles are naturally much quieter than petrol-powered motorcycles. This is great for riders who do not like loud exhausts and even pedestrians very often complain about the unnecessary buzzing exhaust noise from kap-chais. However, some electric motorcycle brands are adding artificial noise.
- ECLIMO is perfect for city riding. Most vehicles are not best suited to city riding, but electric motorcycles are. This is because the regenerative braking that comes with city riding, actually recharges the battery, keeping the power in your machine for longer.
- The ECLIMO is lightweight. Electric bikes have fewer parts than fuel-powered ones, which makes them more lightweight and agile.
You can buy a few versions of the ES-11 with its selling price starting from RM 10,501 for the Basic model, or the ES-11 Pro for RM 14,500 while the ES-11 Delivery we tested sells for RM 15,900.
Fleet buyers can also consider the ECLIMO subscription plan which starts from RM 600.00 a month. Food delivery, fast food chains, and courier service should be looking at this promotion. Visit an ECLIMO showroom or dealer and take a test ride for yourself.
