VW Malaysia now has a registration of interest page for the new Golf
KUALA LUMPUR: Yes, it is really happening. After Singapore, VW Malaysia is under plans to introduce the latest Golf in the local market. The news is confirmed by the fact that Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia now has a registration of interest page for the Golf on its website.
What do we know about the upcoming 8th-gen Golf?
The new Golf will be offered in two variants in Malaysia (as per the teaser on the VW Malaysia website), namely the VW Golf GTI and VW Golf TSI R-Line. The same trims are available in Singapore, therefore we can expect them to mirror the specifications as well.
Engine details
The Singapore-spec Golf GTI is powered by the tried and tested 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that is now tweaked to pump out a maximum power of 245 hp at 5,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 370 Nm from 1,600 rpm. The power is sent to the front wheels via a rapid-shifting DSG gearbox with seven ratios. It completes the century sprint in just 6.4 seconds.
The Golf TSI R-line model, on the other hand, is powered by a new 1.5-litre 4-cylinder mill making a maximum power of 150 hp along with a peak torque of 250 Nm. The said mill is coupled with a mild-hybrid assist system, thus enabling it to deliver self-charging hybrid-like mileage, i.e., 20.83 kmpl.
Feature updates
As per the German automaker, the latest Golf GTI is the most digital variant ever. It comes equipped with - a fully computer-controlled chassis that is controlled by the new Vehicle Dynamics Manager, new electronic differential locks, ESC, and a continuously adaptive electronic damping control system.
The all-new VW Golf is digitally sound too. It features a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, a 10-inch infotainment touch screen that also helps the driver control all the vehicle and drive settings. Further, making the journey pleasuresome are features like 3-zone air-conditioning, 30-colour ambient lighting, and a sporty interior.
Production details
It is being said that VW Malaysia is under plans to locally assemble the latest Golf. Where? At VW Pekan facility in Pahang that is responsible for the production of the Tiguan, Arteon R-Line 4Motion, Tiguan Allspace, and Passat.
