Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace: First impression
Want to buy Volkswagen Tiguan, but need a bit more space? No worries, the longer and roomier Tiguan is now here. A couple of days back, Volkswagen Malaysia launched the Tiguan Allspace in the country, which is primarily the extended wheelbase version of the standard Tiguan, with an additional two seats, making it a 5+2 seater SUV.
Built on the success of the 5-seater Tiguan, the Allspace is available in two variants - Highline and R-Line, locally-assembled at Volkswagen’s Pekan, Pahang plant. The SUV features increased dimensions and greater flexibility in seating and carrying configuration. It competes with other 7-seater SUVs in the Malaysian market, including Mitsubishi Outlander, Mazda CX-8, and Nissan X-Trail. Here we bring our first impression of the new Tiguan Allspace, have a look.
VW Tiguan Allspace Exterior
At 4,701 mm, the 7-seater Tiguan is 215 mm longer than its 5-seater version, and also its 2,787 mm wheelbase is 106 mm longer. Design-wise, the all-new Tiguan Allspace features bespoke front and rear ends. The SUV has a significantly higher bonnet position along with sharper and precise lines running across the bonnet and front bumper, which give it a meaner stance. The list of standard appointments includes LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights, chrome roof rails, and 18-inch Kingston alloy wheels.
However, the R-Line trim comes with a sporty package boasting an overall sportier look while maintaining a great value. The kit comprises 19-inch Sebring alloy wheels, R-Line front bumper and badging, R-Line side skirts and rear spoiler, dual exhaust tailpipes, automatic headlights, and LED taillights with 3D effect.
The available colour options are Blue Silk, Pure White, Deep Black, Platinum Grey, and Pyrite Silver shade.
VW Tiguan Allspace Interior
Being an assertive-looking SUV, the Tiguan Allspace offers multiple seat configurations, thanks to the extra wheelbase. The boot measures 230 litres when all the seats are in place, which can be increased to 700 litres by reducing the number of seats to 5. If you just keep 2 seats, you can have a massive boot space of 1,775 litres, the best in the segment.
Space aside, the cabin features Vienna leather upholstery and several technical bits including
- 11.7-inch Digital Cockpit
- 9.2-inch Discover Pro infotainment system (8.0-inch in Highline)
- App-Connect with MirrorLink, Android Auto, and Apple Carplay
