Upcoming Malaysia-spec Mercedes-Benz EQS previewed before July 22 launch
KUALA LUMPUR: It is a well known fact that Mercedes-Benz Malaysia will soon welcome a new electric vehicle in its lineup, the EQS. However, before making its official launch on July 22, the all-electric sedan was previewed by the automaker at one of the DC fast charging stations located on the East Coast Expressway.

Globally the EQS is offered in six varaint options namely EQS 350, EQS 450 +, EQS 450 4Matic, EQS 500, EQS 580 4Matic, and AMG EQS 53 4Matic+.The text on the fully camouflaged EQS did confirm the EVs launch date, but failed to confirm the variant. Even the registration of interest page of the car on the Mercedes-Benz Malaysia website does not mention any information about trim level that will be offered to the customers.

Globally, the EQS is offered in quite a few variant options, thus explaining our level of excitement. When the EV was first introduced it was offered in two trim levels, the EQS 450+ and 580 4Matic. However, as the time passed Mercedes introduced more variants with the total count going up to six.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS lineup includes - EQS 350, EQS 450 +, EQS 450 4Matic, EQS 500, EQS 580 4Matic, and AMG EQS 53 4Matic+.
As we are not sure which of the above EQS variants will make it to the Malaysian shores, let’s get to know each a little bit, starting with the base model, the EQS 350.
EQS 350: It gets a 90.6 kWh that powers the single, rear-mounted e-motor that generates a maximum power of 292 PS and 565 Nm of torque. It offers a range of 638 km.
EQS 450 +: This rear-wheel drive model gets a 107.8 kWh battery that fuels 333 PS and 568 Nm making the e-motor. It offers 785 km of range.
EQS 450 4Matic: The 107.8 kWh battery in this all-wheel drive model powers two e-motors (one at the front and other at the rear). The output is rated at 360 PS and 800 Nm. It offers 685 km of range.
EQS 500 4Matic: It also gets a 107.8 kWh battery that along with the electric motor deliver 449 PS of power and 855 Nm of torque. The range on this one sits at 685 km.
EQS 580 4Matic: The same 107.8 kWh battery pack here offers 523 PS of power and 676 km of range.
EQS 580 53 4Matic+: Coming from the AMG territory is this range-topping model where the 107.8 kWh battery pack delivers 658 PS and 949 Nm of torque. With the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package, the output hikes to 716 PS and 1,020 Nm. However, there is a downside of all this performance, a compromised range of 586 km.
Mercedes-Benz EQS charging profile comes with an 11 kWh onboard AC charger, however it can be specified with a 22 kW unit. In addition the EV is compatible with up to 200 kW DC fast charger that will offer up to an additional range of 300 km in just 15 minutes.
