Upcoming BYD e6: Detailed in pics

A couple of days back, BYD announced the “grand launch” of its first electric car in Malaysia, the Atto 3, which will be joined by the e6 on a later date as confirmed by the Chinese automaker. Well, we have talked a lot about the Atto 3, so today, we are going to shed light on BYD’s second EV, which will be Malaysia's first electric MPV.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When will BYD e6 launch in Malaysia?

The BYD e6 is expected to hit the Malaysia shores by the end of this year, however, the official announcement regarding this is yet to come.
  • How far can BYD e6 go on a single charge?

Equipped with a 71.7-kWh lithium-ion Blade battery pack, the BYD e6 can go up to 522 km on a single charge.
  • The BYD e6 is an all-electric compact MPV, which was first introduced in China in 2009 as a commercial EV; sales for the general public began in 2011. The EV is currently in its second generation and is on sale in several countries, including Singapore, Thailand, India, and Australia.

The EV comes equipped with a 71.7-kWh lithium-ion Blade battery pack and a 95 PS/180 Nm front-axle mounted electric motor. It promises a pretty impressive range with the help of a regenerative braking system, which is rated at 522 km (on the WLTP cycle). As for the charging, it supports AC as well as DC charging. A 70-kW DC outlet can juice up the EV from 20% to 80% in just 40 minutes with a full charge taking up to 90 minutes.

In terms of performance, the electric vehicle can run from zero to 100 kmph in 18 seconds and attain a top speed of 130 kmph.

Time to look around the exterior and interior of the electric MPV via a detailed gallery.

    Dimensions

Against the measuring tape, the EV measures 4,695 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, 1,670 mm in height, and 2,800 in wheelbase length. These dimensions are almost similar to the ongoing Toyota Innova.

Speaking about the boot space, the vehicle offers a large storage compartment measuring 580 litres, which is good enough to accommodate four large suitcases and one small one. This impressive storage lets the passengers enjoy full comfort during the journey. The curb weight of the MPV is rated at 1,930, while the ground clearance stands at 150 mm.

    Front profile

The EV boasts a minimalistic design language with a teardrop-esque silhouette. The front fascia named as ‘Dragon Face’ is kitted with a number of tiny hexagonal cut-outs, clean lines, sleek headlights, and LED daytime running lights.

    Rear profile

Accentuating the car’s contemporary looks is a neat rear fascia sporting LED tail lights and a powered tailgate.

    Wheels

The side profile of the people-hauler looks sedate with 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels.

    Interior

The e6’s interior also looks nice and spacious with a neatly laid out dashboard housing a free-standing head unit, a flat-bottom adjustable steering wheel, a 5.0-inch TFT instrument display, and a clean centre console.

The latter incorporates a round gear knob and buttons for a regenerative braking system, drive mode, and hazard lights.

    Infotainment System

Inside the BYD e6 lies a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which comes paired with Bluetooth connectivity, enabling occupants to seamlessly connect their smartphones. The screen can be rotated manually to 90 degrees offering two different modes - landscape and portrait, to be switched as per the requirements.

    Rear view camera

The Chinese electric MPV also comes equipped with a rear view camera, which works as eyes behind your head. It displays images from the back of the vehicle and helps the driver reverse or park safely.

    Seats

The comfortable seats of the EV come wrapped in leather along with a 6-way adjustability feature for the driver and front passenger.

    Electric parking brake

Inside the upcoming e6, we can also find the electric parking brake instead of the conventional unit. When the vehicle is parked, it controls the motion with a pull of a button.

    Blade battery

As mentioned above, the EV is fitted with a Blade battery pack, which is touted as ultra-safe by the brand. According to the automaker, it not only raises the safety level bars in the EV industry but also offers a 50% increased space utilisation as compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate batteries. It also reduced the total weight of the vehicle by 490 kg leading to better efficiency and long range.
