Toyota Veloz launched in Malaysia at RM 95,000

KUALA LUMPUR: The replacement for the Toyota Avanza, the all-new Veloz, has finally arrived in Malaysia after a long wait. As revealed earlier, the latest MPV is offered in a single trim i.e. 1.5 (AT), priced at RM 95,000 (on-the-road without insurance). Included in the price is a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty. 

Speaking at the launch of the new Veloz, Ravindran. K, President of UMW Toyota Motor said, "We are excited to announce the much-anticipated launch of the All-New Toyota Veloz which has seen the popularity of the premium crossover soar and become one of the top-selling BMPV for Toyota in the region.”

For those who are not aware, the Toyota Veloz is the upmarket twin of the new Perodua Alza. The two MPVs share the same underpinnings and mechanical setup with different exterior and interior styling. The latter marks a difference of RM20k in their prices. So, what all the pricier Toyota MPV brings to the table, let’s know -

In terms of exterior, the latest Toyota model boasts a striking hexagonal front grille connected to angular LED headlights and LED daytime running lights. The lighting units also incorporate self-levelling and ‘follow-me-home’ features. On the lower side of the grille, the vehicle carries T-shaped chrome accents surrounding the fog lamps.

The side profile of the new people hauler is kitted with automatic-folding mirrors housing automatic foot lamps and dual-tone 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 205/50 tyres. At the same time, the rear fascia is adorned with a full-width, 3D tail lamp assembly.

When it comes to colour palette, UMW Toyota offers the Veloz in 5 striking shades - Metallic Bluish Black, Red Metallic, White, Blue Metallic, and Silver Metallic.

Getting inside, here the MPV comes equipped with a bucketload of creature comforts fulfilling the requirements of all occupants onboard. These comprise -

• Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity
• 7,0-inch coloured Multi-Information Display
• Wireless charging pad with three more USB charging ports for mobile charging

• Electric Parking Brake with auto-brake hold
• Premium semi-leather seats
• LED ambient light
• Two 12-volt power sockets
• Multiple drink and bottle holders

Powering the new Toyota Veloz is a 1,496-cc NR-VE inline four-cylinder petrol mill which delivers a maximum power output of 106 PS at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 138 Nm at 4,200 rpm. The power is sent to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission. The available driving modes are Power, Eco, and Normal.

On the safety front, the seven-seater Veloz comes packed with the class-leading Toyota Safety Sense ADAS pack. It includes advanced safety gears like Pre-Collision Warning, Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Lane Keeping Control, Front Departure Alert, and Adaptive High Beam. 

Also parts of the safety kit are 6 SRS airbags, ABS, traction control, stability control, hill start control, rear cross-traffic alert, pedal misoperation control, parking sensors, and blind spot monitoring.
