Toyota Rush - Top 5 Features

The latest generation of the Toyota Rush was first launched in Malaysia back at the end of last year (2018). Since its introduction, the Rush has taken the market by quite a storm -- having no qualms in squashing its opponents. In Malaysia, the new Toyota Rush goes up against the likes of the almost-identical Perodua Aruz and the equally popular Honda BR-V.

In recent years, the category of the three-row, seven-seat (mini) SUV has seen some strong growth. Prospective car buyers have been migrating towards high-riding, macho-looking vehicles such as the Toyota Rush - even if they can cost more than your average hatchback or sedan. So, before we proceed any further, let’s first glance upon the costs attached to one of these…

1.5S  RM 97,000

Toyota Rush color options include - Blue Metallic, Dark Green Metallic, Dark Grey Metallic, Silver Metallic, and White, the Toyota Rush also comes with a comprehensive 5-year/unlimited-kilometer manufacturer warranty. So, with that out of the way, let’s get into the whole gist of it and list out some of the top 5 features of the Toyota Rush…

1. Automatic LED headlamps

Compared to quite a few cars in this segment (and even price point), such as the Honda BR-V, the Toyota Rush comes equipped with LED headlamps. Also, these stylish LED units in the top-end S trim come with an auto on/off function as well. While the manually-operated main lamps in the entry-level Rush work really well -- the auto-activated feature in the top trim adds to the convenience.

Unlike standard halogen filaments, LED headlamps are far more powerful yet energy-efficient at the same time. They also do not heat up as much as halogen lights, plus they have been proven to have a better ‘throw’ compared to regular headlamp types. Not to mention the fact that LED headlamps look quite cool, too.

2. High ground clearance

When pitted against the likes of the BR-V (with its ride height of 201 mm), the Toyota Rush’s 220 mm of ground clearance not only sounds impressive, it can come in handy in real life as well. Whilst a standard hatchback might have to turn around if confronted by an unpaved or choppy bit of terrafirma -- that would likely not bother the Rush.

While the raised height might cause a little faff for shorter folks to step inside the Rush, its benefits cannot be overlooked - especially considering this has been tagged as an ‘SUV’. Also, one need not worry too much about clearing speed humps on the road, with the distance between vital mechanicals and the pavement affording some lapse in gauging the size of an upcoming surface imperfection.

3. A LOT of cup holders

If you think your hatchback’s modest 2 or 4 cup holders are pretty dope, you haven’t come across the Toyota Rush and its stunning 13-cup-holder situation. Yes, you read that right. Unlike even several other seven-seat SUVs, the Rush has been fitted with 13 cup holders - that’s more cup holders than the number of occupants that this family SUV can actually carry!

4. Better infotainment system

Compared to the system that’s installed on the Honda BR-V, the touchscreen infotainment unit in the Toyota Rush can be viewed as a touch better in a few aspects. While the Honda’s system is fine, the Rush comes in with a 6-speaker sound system (versus the Honda’s four) and a larger 6.8-inch touch panel instead of the BR-V’s smaller 6.1-inch unit.

Not just that, the Toyota Rush also comes along with dual accessory connectors and dual USB charging ports for your various smart devices. On top of all this, if you are old-fashioned, you could even use Rush’s built-in DVD player.

5. Modern safety equipment

One of the fortes of the Toyota Rush is its vast and welcomed safety catalogue. While many cars in this segment come with quite a few vital safety features, Toyota has done one better - they have added some active safety nannies to their vehicle’s safety list. Plus, the Rush comes with a satisfying 5-star safety rating by the ASEAN NCAP.

One of the first most important safety gadgets that the Toyota Rush comes shipped with includes a built-in Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and a 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor (PVM). These features help drivers not only help park their cars better and in a safer manner but also be safe whilst driving on our roads.

Toyota Rush specs sheet welcome combination of passive & active safety technologies… These include the following:

  • Toyota Pre-collision System with Pre-collision Warning (PCW) and Pre-collision Braking (PCB);
  • Front Departure Alert (FDA) with Pedal Misoperation Control (PMC)
  • Six airbags (front, front side, curtain)
  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Braking Assist (BA)
  • Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
  • Hill-start Assist Control (HAC)
  • Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Traction Control (TRC)
  • Speed-sensing door locks
  • ISOFIX child-seat anchor points
  • Front & rear parking sensors with rearview camera

There’s little wonder that the new Toyota Rush is one of the best-selling cars in its segment in the country. Among its features mentioned above, the Japanese automaker has also ensured that their vehicles boasts of excellent reliability, build quality and capabilities. It is one of those cars which you wouldn’t regret buying.
