Toyota Motors showcases 2020 Yaris and Yaris Ativ at 2019 Thailand Motor Expo
KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota Motors has showcased the updated Yaris and Yaris Ativ sedan at the 2019 Thailand Motor Expo. While the cosmetic changes in both the models are nominal, the mechanical department has received a considerable makeover.
The cars come with a 3NR-FKE engine, ditching the previous 3NR-FE 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol. It means the engine meets Thailand’s Phase 2 Eco Car regulations.
It offers lower emissions and better fuel economy. With the new engine, the power output has also increased. It now offers 92 PS power and 109 Nm torque in comparison to the previous 86 PS and 108 Nm, respectively.
Instead of the Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent), the mill is paired with the Dual VVT-iE (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent system Electric Motor). Moreover, there is also an idling start/stop system which is coupled with a Super CVT-i.
There are three variants for the Yaris and Yaris Ativ sedan - Entry, Mid, and High. The ‘Entry’ is the base variant that has several features including reflector halogen headlamps, 15-inch steel wheels, a urethane steering wheel,
fabric seats, a standard head unit, gear knob, manual air-conditioning, and two speakers. For the Yaris, it is priced at 539,000 baht (RM 74,390), while the Yaris Ativ entry-level variant is priced at 529,000 baht (RM 73,010).
One step up is the ‘Mid’, that has an array of features. These include under-bonnet hood silencer, sun visors, height adjustment for the driver’s seat, an Optitron instrument cluster having a multi-info display,
two more speakers, a 6.7-inch touchscreen head unit, automatic air-conditioning, a reverse camera and 15-inch alloys. This variant gets a price tag of 589,000 baht (RM 81,298) for the Yaris and 579,000 baht (RM 79,911) for the Yaris Ativ.
The top of the range model, ‘High’ has a lot of quality features including front fog lamps, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, front and rear digital video recorders, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather upholstery, a 4.2-inch multi-info display, keyless entry and start, etc. This variant costs around 649,000 baht (RM 89,583) for both the model.
