Toyota introduces upgraded Hilux, Fortuner, and GR86 in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: As the leading non-national automotive brand in Malaysia, UMW Toyota is committed to offering innovative mobility solutions catering to the diverse needs of Malaysian customers. To maintain its position, the automaker has rolled the upgraded versions of its three popular models - Toyota Hilux, Toyota Fortuner, and Toyota GR86. 

The official bookings of the new Hilux, new Fortuner, and new GR86 are now underway in Malaysia.

So, what do the upcoming Toyota cars bring to the table? Let’s know one by one, starting with the Hilux.

2024 Toyota Hilux

 

The upgraded version of Malaysia’s best-selling pick-up truck gets some new features, the availability of which depends on the variant you choose. 

The Hilux 2.4 Single Cab now comes with new Vehicle Stability Control. The GR-S, Rogue, and V variants now include Remote Engine Start and a Panoramic View Monitor as standard, with these features available as options on the Hilux E MT and AT trims. Additionally, a wireless charger is now standard on the GR-S and Rogue, and optional on the V, E MT, and AT trims.

The engine choices available for the 2024 Toyota Hilux include the latest Euro 4 compliant 2.4-litre turbo diesel and 2.8-litre turbo diesel mills. The former churns out a maximum power of 150 PS and a peak torque of 400 Nm while the latter is tuned to deliver 204 PS and 500 Nm. The top-spec GR-S comes powered by a more powerful 2.8-litre turbo diesel mill which kicks out  224 PS and 550 Nm. Power is sent to the wheels via a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Pricing for the 2024 Toyota Hilux begins at RM 104,880 and goes up to RM 173,280.

2024 Toyota Fortuner

As for the 2024 model year, the Toyota Fortuner benefits from a new GR Bodykit as an optional accessory. The package includes - Front Bumper Skirt, Front Fog Lamp Garnish, and Rear Bumper Skirt. It is available for the Fortuner 2.7 SRZ and Fortuner 2.4. A Remote Engine Start feature is now also available for Fortuner 2.8 VRZ and Fortuner 2.7 SRZ.

Powering the Fortuner 2.7 SRZ is a 2.7-litre petrol engine churning out 166 PS and 245 Nm of torque. The Fortuner 2.8 VRZ comes with a 2.8-litre diesel engine delivering 204 PS and 500 Nm while the Fortuner 2.4 variant is powered by a 2.4-litre diesel mill capable of producing 150 PS and 400 Nm.

Pricing for the 2024 Toyota Fortuner begins at RM 195,880 and goes up to RM 202,880.

2024 Toyota GR86

The 2024 Toyota GR86 gains a series of carefully engineered refinements for both 2.4 A/T and 2.4 M/T variants. These include -

• Improved throttle response for better controllability at the limits.
• Refined suspension for enhanced handling and road feel.
• Recalibrated electric power steering for a more direct and engaging experience.
• Enhanced transmission tuning on the GR86 2.4 A/T for higher engine RPM after downshifts.

Enhancing the safety quotient is front and rear Digital Video Recorder, which automatically activates and starts recording upon engine ignition, and captures wide-angle footage in full HD. 

The 2024 Toyota GR86 price tag reads RM 295,000.
