Toyota GR Supra gets a tech update in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: For the digitally savvy sports car enthusiasts, Toyota Malaysia updated the GR Supra by adding the Apple CarPlay compatibility (wired) on the infotainment system. It is now available with the 3.0-litre trim of the sports car and can let the Apple mobile users be connected and entertained throughout their journey. Unfortunately, Android users are still not able to enjoy that fun.

Well, the new update complements the ongoing 8.8-inch touchscreen display that already has a touchpad remote, built-in navigation, USB, and Bluetooth. As for sound, the car is fitted with a 12- speaker JBL HiFi Surround Sound System that offers uncompromised sound quality.

Prior to this, Toyota gave the car a performance upgrade last year in July. centered on the turbocharged inline-six engine. The improved motor churns out a maximum power output of 388 PS between 5,800 and 6,500 rpm with a bump of 14%. The peak torque, on the other hand, remains the same at 500 Nm but it maxes through a wider range of 1,800 rpm to 5,000 rpm instead of 1,600 rpm to 4,500 rpm. 

Along with that, the automaker also brought on board a new dual-branch exhaust manifold with 6 ports to improve heat management. A new piston design and a re-tuned chassis also helped in increasing the car’s driving dynamics.

In terms of safety, the GR Supra specs sheet includes a variety of active systems like Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Adaptive High Beam System, and Road Sign Assist. Other features are ABS-EBD with BA, vehicle stability control & traction control, hill-start assist, emergency stop signal, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear Parking Sensors, reverse camera, and rear end collision warning.

The enhanced GR Supra is now available for booking at the ongoing price of RM 589,987 (with 50% sales tax exemption and without insurance).
