Toyota Corolla Cross launched in Malaysia, check price and specs here
KUALA LUMPUR: For the year 2021, Toyota seems focused on introducing new and updated models in Malaysia. Last month, we witnessed the grand arrival of the revamped Fortuner and Innova, which is now followed by the all-new Corolla Cross. The new Japanese compact SUV just made its debut on the Malaysian shores and stands head-to-head against the beloved Proton X50, Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-30, and Subaru XV.
The launch of the Toyota Corolla Cross was much anticipated in the local market as it has already made its entry to the neighbouring countries, including Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam. So, without any further ado, here we bring the Toyota Corolla Cross details you need to know.
Based on the concept of “Corolla Meets SUV,” the five-seater Corolla Cross rides on the automaker’s new TNGA architecture. Size-wise, it is 4,460 mm long, 1,620 mm tall, 1,825 mm wide and has a wheelbase of 2640 mm. The Corolla Cross boot space measures 440 litres.
Moving to the variants on offer, Toyota Corolla Cross is available in two variants - G and V, priced at RM 124,000 and RM 134,000, respectively. These are on-the-road prices including SST, without insurance. The mentioned prices also include a five-year unlimited mileage warranty.
Under the hood, both variants feature the same 2ZR-FE 1.8 litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder dual VVT-i gasoline mill that delivers a maximum power of 139 PS at 6,400 rpm and a peak torque of 172 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a CVT with a Sequential Shiftmatic system sending power to the front wheels.
On the exterior, the Corolla Cross variants carry different equipment. The entry-level 1.8G gets halogen projector headlamps with bulb-type DRLs, LED fog lamps, LED tail lights, and 17-inch wheels. On the contrary, the range-topping 1.8 V boasts bi-LED headlights with LED DRLs, an acoustic laminated windshield, and 18-inch dual-tone alloys. However, a powered tailgate with a kick sensor and powered wing mirrors with LED turn indicators are common features.
Inside, the Corolla Cross borrows the designing cues from the Corolla sedan as it has a similar dashboard and a minimalist central console. Included in the features list is a 4.2-inch colour multi-info display, a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto support, single-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, eight-way power-adjustability for the driver seat, a front-facing dashcam, and black leather seat upholstery. A rear-facing dashcam and a Qi wireless smartphone charging pad are available as optional accessories.
As for safety, the new Toyota Corolla Cross is loaded with several hi-tech systems including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Vehicle Telematics System, passive cruise control, tyre pressure warning system, seven airbags, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree surround-view camera. Above these standard bits, the top-spec 1.8 V gets Toyota Safety Sense, which comprises functions like lane departure alert with steering assist, autonomous emergency braking, lane tracing assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beam.
The 2021 Toyota Corolla Cross colour options are - Red Mica Metallic, Metalstream Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Nebula Blue Metallic, and Graphic Metallic.
