Toyota announces 2020 GR Yaris pricing

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2020 Toyota GR Yaris hatchback may cost around RM 164,400 when the car goes on sale in the Malaysian market later this year. The leading Japanese automobile behemoth recently announced the all-wheel-drive (AWD) car’s price for the UK market. The entry-level model is priced at £29,995 and includes on-road costs.

The Toyota Yaris hasn’t really been one of the bestsellers in its segment. The company, in a bid to turn things around, introduced the supercharged Yaris Gazoo Racing tuned by the Meister of the Nürburgring (GRMN) model back in 2017. The subcompact hatchback got a generation change some months ago.

The 2020 Yaris GR is hauled by a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine which produces 257PS maximum power and the 360Nm peak torque. The 3-cylinder motor is mated to a 6-speed transmission.
The Yaris GR was introduced at the Tokyo Auto Salon and benefits from the carbon fibre polymer and aluminium used in its construction to keep the weight low.

The Yaris is currently available in three trims in the Malaysian car market. It’s hauled by a 1,496 cc motor which produces 107 PS maximum power and 140 Nm peak torque. The engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) unit. The standard safety equipment on all models comprises seven airbags (side, driver’s knee, curtain, and dual front), antilock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD), vehicle stability control, and brake assist. The Yaris currently commands an entry-level price of RM 70,888.
