The latest Mercedes-AMG S-Class is here; the S 63 E Performance

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-AMG has yet again proved its ability to transform luxury saloons into robust vehicles. This time it comes in the form of the all-new S 63 E Performance, the most powerful S-Class ever.

Making the latest AMG S-Class so powerful is a plug-in hybrid system along with a V8 powerplant. The former is very similar to the F1-tech hybrid system and the latter is a massive 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo mill that gets assistance from a rear-mounted electric drive system.

Coming to the figures, the V8 bi-turbo mill makes a maximum power of 612 hp at 5,500-6,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 900 Nm at 2,500 to 4,500 rpm. The e-motor generates 190 hp and 320 Nm of torque. In total, the system makes 802 hp and 1,430 Nm. All this power is transmitted to all the wheels via AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system and an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission system.

On the performance front, the massive power enables the Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance to complete the century sprint in just 3.3 seconds and attain a top speed of 290 kmph (250 kmph with electronic speed limiter).

The rear-mounted e-motor is powered by a 13.1 kW battery pack which offers an all-electric range of 33 km. As for charging, the battery can be refueled via a 3.7 kW AC charging setup.
