Tesla Model Y deliveries commence in Malaysia after almost 8 months of waiting

KUALA LUMPUR: Back in July 2023, the American EV giant Tesla made its debut in Malaysia with the highly anticipated launch of the Model Y. Since the launch, enthusiasts and prospective buyers have eagerly awaited the commencement of deliveries. Well, their wait is over now as the automaker has officially started delivering the EV in the local market.

The first batch of customers had the joy of receiving their EVs yesterday, marking a significant milestone for the brand’s presence in the country.

The Tesla Model Y is offered in three variants in Malaysia - RWD, Long Range AWD, and Performance AWD, priced at RM 199,000, RM 246,000, and RM 288,000 respectively. Included in the price is a 4-year/80,000 km manufacturing and an 8-year/160,000 km battery & drive unit warranty. 

The RWD trim runs on a single rear-mounted electric motor delivering a maximum power of 347 PS and a peak torque of 420 Nm. On the other hand, the Long Range variant is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup tuned to deliver 514 PS and 493 Nm. The same setup also powers the top-spec Performance trim, but it generates a higher level of output i.e. 534 PS and 660 Nm.

In terms of the battery pack, the base-spec Tesla Model Y comes mated to a 57.5 kWh battery pack offering a range of 430 km (on the WLTP cycle). However, the other two variants incorporate a larger 75 kWh unit delivering 533 km on the Long Range AWD and 514 km on the Performance AWD.

With the commencement of Tesla Model Y deliveries, the range of electric vehicles in the country continues to expand, offering consumers more options for environmentally friendly transportation solutions.
