Sub-Compact Jeep SUV to come out in 2022
KUALA LUMPUR: The American automaker has shed out plans to bring an A-segment SUV in two years time, to rival the Suzuki Jimny. As reported by Auto Express, the company will be positioning this new “ultra-compact” vehicle below the Jeep Renegade in its range of vehicles.
Additionally, an all-electric powertrain could also see the light of day. This can be seen as a result of the merger happened recently between FCA and PSA groups. As per the reports, Jeep’s European Head of Brand Marketing, Marco Pigozzi, upon questioning about plans to bring an electrified version, said, “We have the capability to deliver the electrification we need.”
It is possible that the sub-compact Jeep could feature a modified version of the CMP architecture from Peugeot that currently forms the basis for electric models of the Peugeot 208, DS3 Crossback, and Vauxhall Corsa.
Pigozzi also said, “The car will be able to be used as a bad-ass Jeep, but it has also been designed to be used every day.” Further, he mentioned that neither the brand’s renowned off-road capability will be compromised nor day-to-day practicality of a sub-compact SUV.
While answering about the vehicle he said that the new “ultra compact” vehicle will around 4 metres long, shorter than the Nissan Juke and longer than the Suzuki Jimny, only slightly though.
While the new Jeep “ultra compact” SUV will arrive in 2022, the company has already committed to becoming the greenest SUV brand by 2022, meaning it’ll offer an electrified version of all SUV cars in its line-up.
