Second-gen MG ZS teased; global debut later this month
KUALA LUMPUR: MG has officially begun the teaser campaigning of the next-gen ZS that is set to make its world premiere on August 28, 2024. The video teaser, posted by MG Motor Australia, offers a good look at the upcoming hybrid SUV, exposing its front as well as rear design.

Initially, the new MG ZS will be launched in Australia, Europe, and the UK, followed by other markets.The upcoming MG ZS aligns with the brand’s latest design philosophy and features a prominent and wide front grille and aggressive LED headlights. Lending the front fascia a more imposing stance is a contrasting lower bumper section and air intakes on the sides. The upgraded SUV also boasts sculpted rear shoulders and a straighter beltline.
The rear design looks much similar to the MG3 Hybrid+ with new tail lights, a sharper tailgate, and a skid plate on the bumper.
While the automaker does not reveal any glimpse of the new ZS cabin, spy shots reveal that the SUV will be getting massive interior updates. It is likely to get a new squared-off steering wheel, a larger infotainment touchscreen, newly designed air vents, and a T-bar shifter.
In terms of mechanical setup, the second-gen MG ZS is expected to borrow the Hybrid+ technology from the MG3 hatchback. The said mill combines a 102 PS/128 Nm 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle inline four-cylinder petrol engine and a 136 PS/250 Nm electric motor for a combined output of 194 PS. It comes mated to a three-speed E-AT automatic and a 1.83-kWh lithium-ion battery.
The MG Hybrid+ tech has five different modes (EV, Series, Series and Charge, Drive and Charge, and Parallel) that can operate automatically, without any manual driver adjustment.
Other than the hybrid drivetrain, the next-gen ZS will be available in turbocharged gasoline and fully electric powertrain options, catering to the different needs of customers.
Closer to home, MG Motor Malaysia offers the first-gen ZS in pure electric form, equipped with a single front-mounted electric motor producing 176 PS and 280 Nm and a 51.1-kWh LFP battery pack offering a WLTP-claimed driving range of 320 km. The price tag reads RM 125,999, including a 7-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year/180,000 km battery warranty.
