Save the date - Chery Omoda E5 EV launching on March 6 in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: After the BYD Seal, Malaysia’s rapidly growing EV market is set to welcome the electric counterpart of the Omoda 5, dubbed as the Omoda E5. The highly-anticipated launch is scheduled for March 6, 2024.

The Omoda E5 will come powered by a single electric motor generating a maximum power of 204 PS and a peak torque of 340 Nm. Feeding the motor is a 61-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which offers a WLTP-claimed driving range of 430 km. The battery is compatible with both AC and DC charging methods. Using an 80kW Max DC charger, it can charge from 0% to 80% in only 40 minutes, whereas with a 9.9kW Max AC charger, it takes 8 hours to achieve the same level of charge.

Performance-wise, the Chery EV hits the century sprint in 7.6 seconds and achieves a top speed of 172 kmph.

In terms of dimensions, the five-seater electric SUV measures 4,400 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1600 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 2,630 mm. The boot capacity is measured at 483 litres. 

The exterior styling of the Omoda E5 closely mirrors that of its traditional internal combustion engine counterpart, with specific enhancements tailored for an electric vehicle. These include a sealed front grille, unique bumpers featuring automatic cooling shutters, aerodynamically designed wheels, and a front-mounted charging port. The colour palette includes four options - Aqua Green, Khaki White, Phantom Grey, and Dark Black.

The EV features a multi-colour interior with soft touch material and a special wood panel dashboard. It is loaded with modern amenities and features designed to enhance comfort, convenience, and connectivity for passengers. These include -
