KUALA LUMPUR: After the success of Atto 3, BYD is all set to bring its second EV to Malaysian shores. Yes, that’s right! First previewed in Malaysia late last year, the Dolphin electric hatchback is slated to launch in Malaysia on July 28, 2023.

The upcoming Dolphin is based on BYD e-Platform 3.0 architecture, just like the Atto.BYD calls the Dolphin a “new electric wave” as it hails from the brand’s ocean series lineup, which also comprises the Seal electric sedan. The latter is also earmarked to launch in Malaysia later this year.
The upcoming Dolphin is based on BYD e-Platform 3.0 architecture just like the Atto. Exclusively designed for EVs, the said platform promises to improve the performance of electric vehicles in terms of safety and range at low temperatures and to improve the overall driving experience.
Size-wise, it is 4,290 mm long, 1,770 mm wide, and 1,570 mm tall and spans a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. Compared to the Atto 3, it is 165 mm shorter and 280 mm narrower. However, the height and wheelbase of the two EVs are almost identical.
In terms of design, the electric hatchback boasts an Ocean Aesthetics philosophy with sleek lines and unique headlights and taillights that resemble marine animals. The interior is modern and stylish featuring several advanced elements like a 12.8-inch 'Intelligent Rotating Screen', in-built navigation, vehicle-to-load functionality, Apple CarPlay, smart voice assistance, adaptive cruise control, and more.
BYD offers the Dolphin in two configurations globally viz. Standard Range and Extended Range. The former comprises a single electric motor that kicks out a maximum power of 94 PS and a peak torque of 180 Nm while the latter houses a more powerful 204 PS/310 Nm motor.
