KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When will the 2022 Proton Exora launch?

The 2022 Proton Exora will launch on August 19, 2022.
  • What changes are expected for the 2022 Proton Exora?

The 2022 Proton Exora is likely to get a new powertrain, which could be a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine or 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder unit.
  • First launched in 2009, the ongoing Exora is the automaker’s oldest model in the current lineup. It has been running for the past 13 years with the last running change (RC) received in 2019. It has not even come with Proton’s new circular logo yet.

    2022 Proton Exora teaser

Back in May, the company’s deputy CEO, Roslan Abdullah, confirmed the arrival of an updated Exora for this year, however, he also stated that it will not be to the extent of what the Saga facelift received.

With that being said, the teaser also does not tell much about the revamped 7-seater car. However, the depiction of horses in the imagery combined with the “performance to run free” tagline hints at a new powertrain.

The caption reads, “Revel in the performance of the Proton Exora’s turbo-charged engine making your everyday journeys smoother. Feel it to believe it in the Intelligence that Moves”.

    Proton Exora engine

The ongoing Exora comes equipped with a 1.6-litre turbo inline-four mill delivering a maximum power of 140 hp and a peak torque of 203 Nm. As for 2022, our speculations hover around the inclusion of a 184 hp/300 Nm 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that powers the X70 or a 177 hp/255 Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder unit that can also be found on the X70 as well as X50. The latter one is locally-assembled here in Malaysia.

A few cosmetic tweaks and convenience features may also be added to the upcoming 2022 Proton Exora.

Well, these are just expectations and we have to wait for Proton to reveal official details this Friday. So, are you excited about the 2022 Proton Exora launch? Let us know in the comments.
