Revised Audi A8 revealed, gets extensive visual updates, feature upgrades and more

KUALA LUMPUR: Audi has given a midlife update to the best of its entire saloon range, the A8. Currently, in its fourth generation version, the flagship Audi A8 has received some extensive changes in and out and a few additional features as well.

The new Audi A8 has got a revised front fascia which now comes with a sharper and wider front grille with studded chrome finish instead of horizontal chrome slats of the grille in the erstwhile model. The front bumper too has received a couple of changes with more upright air intakes on the side edges and new chrome surrounds for the fog lamps. The headlamps are now digital Matrix LED units, while the rear profile is restyled too with new digital OLED tail lamps.

The new Audi A8 will be available in a range of five new matte paint schemes of Daytona Grey, Floret Silver, District Green, Terra Grey and Glacier White, and four new metallic paint shades of District Green, Manhattan Grey, Ultra Blue and Firmament Blue. Also on offer is the optional S Line exterior styling package, which adds some of the sporty design elements from the performance-oriented S8.

The cabin of the Audi A8 has received a few changes, including an optional coloured head-up display above the full TFT virtual cockpit instrument console and new MIB 3 software for the 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and 8.6-inch touch-controlled panel placed below the former for controlling various other functions of the car. The rear seat occupants also get two new 10.1-inch screens for rear-seat entertainment.

The new Audi A8 will be available with a choice of 3.0-litre six-cylinder and 4.0-litre V8 TFSI petrol engines, 3.0-litre V6 diesel and a plug-in hybrid TFSIe powertrain. All these engine options come with an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox, Quattro all-wheel-drive and mild-hybrid technology as standard.

In addition to the facelifted A8, Audi has also showcased an ultra-luxury variant of the sedan, called Audi A8 Horch. Introduced as a direct answer to the Mercedes Maybach S-Class, the Audi A8 L Horch is currently introduced only for the Chinese market and gets a host of design and feature upgrades over the standard A8. The highlights of the Audi A8 L Horch include 130mm longer length over the standard A8, deep-pile floor mats, different closed-themed alloy wheels, diamond-like quilting for the leather upholstery, dual-tone paint schemes, different looking grille with vertical slats, Horch emblems in and out, additional chrome garnish on the outside and bigger panoramic roof.
