Range Rover Sport SUV hits one million sales mark

KUALA LUMPUR: It was only last year that the Range Rover nameplate celebrated its 50th anniversary and now its little brother the Range Rover Sport has hit the one million sales mark. Exciting news for the brand, isn’t it?

The news was reported by Land Rover itself via an official announcement video. The Range Rover Sport nameplate was introduced in 2004 wherein it arrived as the Range Stormer concept. In the 15 years of its existence, the Range Rover Sport nameplate has grown to become the best-selling SUVs of the brand ever.

In the 31 second video we see of the Range Rover Sport, before announcing the ‘1 Million Sales’ bit, the automaker took us through the SUVs various other achievements and milestones. For instance, the video reminds us of the time when the Range Rover Sport became the fastest SUV at the Nurburgring in 2014 with its 8 mins and 14 secs lap timing. Further, the clip also reminded us of the time when the SUV climbed Heaven’s Gate 999 steps. All this puts the Range Rover Sport in limelight and with its capabilities and strength, it deserves all the attention.

It is not the end of the road for the Range Rover Sports now that it has sold one million examples. Land Rover will continue its mid-size SUV legacy via the updated 2021 Range Rover Sport that was revealed last year in July. The new model is available in several powertrain options, including four-, six, and eight-cylinder diesel and petrol options. Also, part of the kit is a mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid engine.
